Same numbers no matter dose - HOW??

Started low dose in september, been working up to where we are today.
We had the same numbers at 2.5u as we have at 5.5, generally speaking. though there have been days where we have had some blues and yellows, most of the time we are stuck in pink. If you look at our ss you'll see why i'm going insane and aging rapidly.

I'm seriosuly starting to consider stopping the insulin entirely. It feels useless giving him any. He once went 24 hrs without insulin and he was in the pink, which is where he usually is when on insulin. Its crazy.

Jen, it is very early days since you started PZI.
Don't stop insulin - your kitty needs it.
I think that the last couple of days might have been a bounce. If I was you I would probably try to keep him on a dose of 4 units and see how it goes.
I had the same problem with Rocky - he was in pinks for a long time and all of a sudden he started reacting to insulin, it just took a lot of time.
Your situation with Mr. Biddles is very complicated as he has many health problems.

Please don't despair, you just need more time to see what happens on that dose.

There are 2 other possibilities which might explain what you are seeing:

1) The initial dose was too high - a dose which is too high may result in glucose levels similar to a dose which is too low. If that seems possible, you might indeed start over at 0.5 to 1.0 unit WHILE TESTING FOR KETONES. That last part is very important. If he really does need the higher level, a reduced dose might result in fat breakdown and ketone development. This could lead to diabetic ketoacidosis which is very dangerous.

2) He may have developed insulin auto-antibodies (IAA) - you can read about those here. That is more likely once you are up over 5 or more units. We strongly encourage blood tests for IAA and acromegaly once the doses start getting higher like that. And if those tests come back positive, switching to a depot insulin such as Levemir more be more helpful in controlling the glucose levels.

Since you are getting a significant drop (a little over 100 points) that to me points that you likely have a high dose cat.
I would do the tests as suggested by BJM.

My MurrFee had Acromegaly and early on your curves were like his.
Before saying goodby he was 50 units twice a day of Levemir and N. I used N to reduce costs and others have done similar for acromegaly cats.
