Morning All! I just got off the phone with the vet's office :-x I wanted to bring Sabrina in for the bloodwork to see where she's at.....front end talked with the vet & they insist doing a "professional" curve next Thursday the 14th. They told me bring all my records & they'd compare with their findings, bring her in @ 8:30 AM. I then proceeded to tell them she'll be @ +2 so I'll do that reading......They also put me on hold while they spoke with Dr Alex when I requested Sabrina's previous & current labs, in case she had to go to the e-vet. I originally was going to bring her in this morning for follow up & that's when they pushed me off til next Thursday cat(2)_steam Any suggestions on how to handle all this? I'm thinking I should perform another curve @ home on Tuesday 2/12(will be exactly 2 wks from last....when she was bouncing) & dosing is consistent(which is what the vet wants) In the meantime I will be testing more to try to find Nadir & how low she goes.....bad, bad me! I haven't been testing frequently lately ohmygod_smile Also, one other question....this week I got Friskies pate instead of the Fancy Feast Classics, Bg higher because of that? Any input would be greatly appreciated.............Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon Have A Wonderful Day & for those of us in the northeast, please be safe with the upcoming storm ;-)

Hi guys .. hmm .. well I guess if it was me, I would outright refuse the "professional" curve they insist on doing .. the environment alone can throw off readings and be a total waste of money .. but that's just me! Are there any other vet's in your area you could check out? We tried three different vets before we found mocha's current on .. And yes, I do believe the pate style food can raise up BG's .. have a great day guys!

Any change in food can temporarily effect numbers. Give it a couple of days to see if numbers go back to where they usually are.

My feeling on curves is like Devon said, a waste of money. If the vet doesn't want to charge you, that's fine although, I would hate to leave my cat at the vet's office for a half day. The biggest problem with a curve at the vet's office is that the numbers are usually skewed due to stress. Cats are territorial and they are out of their territory in a place with strange smells and sounds and with people your kitty doesn't know or trust. As a result, numbers are frequently higher than what you see at home. If dose adjustments are suggested based on these falsely elevated numbers, once your cat is back in familiar surroundings, the new dose will be more than what's needed. Once my vet saw I was home testing, she never asked for a curve.

I think the question to pose to the vet is for who's benefit is the curve? If it's for the cat's benefit, you can get the numbers and provide a link to your SS. The numbers will be obtained under normal, stress free conditions. If the curve is for the vet's benefit, then what the vet is doing is charging you for an unnecessary procedure.

Morning Sienne! That's my whole problem.....sent her the SS including 1/29 curve when she was bouncing....they sent me back an email that info was incomplete cat(2)_steam Sorry I don't know how to link a thread......you responded to me "In Layman's Terms" dated 2/1 & agreed she bounced big time. I asked this morning to do only the Idexx Pre screeen & asked them about Lytes.....got the run around  Again, reminder for everyone, I don't really do well navigating around the computer LOL!!!!~ Thanks, Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

I would call and ask to speak with your vet -- not the receptionist and not the tech. I would ask the vet what s/he wants in a curve. My understanding is that the typical curve is a test every 2-hours. If the vet tells you something different, ask why the difference. I would also inform the vet that you were told the curve on 1/29 is incomplete and you would like to know what to do differently. I would get another curve when you can. Tell your vet you'll send the results since you don't want to stress Sabrina out unnecessarily. I'd also ask the vet about the tests. The people you're talking to either don't know the answer or they are told to defer to the vet. (I'd also begin the conversation w/ the vet by apologizing for taking up his/her time but you weren't getting your questions answered by the staff and you're confused.)
