Lantus needs to be given TWICE a day. Skipping shots is not going to do Cupcake any good.

REDUCE THE DOSE!!!! Take him down to 2.5u!! You need to find a dose that allows you to give it TWICE a day.

Right now he is red in the mornings because he has no insulin to work off of at night so his shed is draining.

Oh my goodness, Ruta - Mel is right. Lantus works only when it is dosed consistently. If your pmps is low, you would want to reduce to the 2.50u and hold for a few days like Mel is suggesting. Mel has a lot of experience and that is why we trust her advice. Right now you are confusing Cupcake's organs.

Please know that we want Cupcake to feel better as all of us help each other figure out how to best care for our precious critters in this dance.

Hello my Dear supportive team :*

I'm so sorry I couldn't find some time to answer earlier. Had a very busy time.
Yeah... I do understand what you are saying. However my vet recommended me to wait for a couple of days and see. I'm trying to stick to BID dosing, reduced Cupcake's dose by 0,25.
It doesn't work :( Could you please look at his SS? Whaaaaat's happening now? ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile
I skipped his dose this morning again! And he stayed green for the whole day!

Labas Ruta,
It seems as that Cupcake does not need as much insulin as before; many steroid induced cats go off insulin all together, and now it appears that Cupcake does not have an infection so that is also allowing his bg's to go down. Many cats gradually go down to very tiny amounts of insulin and then none at all. I will not even attempt to tell you what doseage to follow, but I am sure Mel will visit the board and give you guidance in that area.

Labas Danute,

Thanks for your support. I do not lose hope Cupcake will go into remission one day.
I'm confused though. Thinking about tomorrow. Should I skip his dose again if I'll see low BG in the morning?

For now we're going to need to work off a sliding scale sort of. ...Typically this isn't how to use Lantus but we may need to fast track him in dose reductions.

So if in the pink or higher stick with the pink 2.5u unless he low again by preshot then reduce to 2u

If in the yellows at preshot then shoot 2u and same as above if he is back to low to shoot by the next preshot drop the dose another half unit.

We want to find a dose that is slightly under his ideal then fine tune it back up.
