I havent been here in a while since Rusty has been OTJ at the end of April. I have been checking his BG every week (but havent updated spreadsheet) And he is always in the 70's and 80's.

I noticed that last night, he didnt act like he was feeling well, just laying around, not as active as usual, but other than that he was fine.

Then when I got up today, there was a turd outside the litterbox, about a foot and a half from it. it was very dark, almost black. At that time, I didnt know which cat had done it.

Then on into the dining room, there was smudges of another one across the floor, also very, very dark, and on into the living room. I got all of this cleaned up, then went to make my bed, and one of them had urinated some on my bedding, not a lot, just about maybe 2 table spoons. So then had to put blankets, etc in the wash.

All this time, they are all acting normal, watching me clean everything.

Then when I finally got my coffee, I sat down with Rusty and he had part of the black poo on his back end, so, mystery solved, it was him, but he wouldnt let me get it off him, but was acting normal. Then I had to get ready and come to work.

Now my DH has sent me message that he has vomited several times in the past hour, he says that some of them have been mostly saliva, and some have food in them. He says when he is not throwing up, that he is acting like he always does, but I am so worried, and I still have 3 more hours till I can leave here.
Does anyone know what this might be? I thought about some kind of poison, but we dont put anything like that our because of the cats, and I dont have any houseplants either-Help!!

Was there any hint of blood in the stool? Was it normal consistancy or hard like constipated hard, or runny?
Neither kitty goes outside? Any chance he might have gotten some sort of insect (spider?) or other "prey"? I caught Bob with a skink last week, and I don't know how it got in the house.

I didnt see any blood, it was just dark, dark, almost like charcoal. It was normal, not hard, not runny.

They dont go outside, the only thing i ever see in the house is the occasional spider or mosquito, but maybe there was something like a mouse maybe, or a lizard, but I didnt see any evidence of anything like that.

I think probably if it was something strange he ate, it would have showed up with the multiple vomiting episodes too.
You said he first started acting "not right" last night? Has he eaten normally since then?
Carl

Yes, he ate normal, while I was there at least. I always put out enough food to last till I get home after midnight.
I guess after the diabetes from earlier this year I always think that he has something serious, I hope that this is just a small thing.

I hope so too, these kitties stress us out worse than kids do.
I was thinking that if Rusty was "sick" sick, then along with the vomiting, he'd not have any appetite either. It sounds like he ate something that didn't agree with him yesterday, and it messed him up at both ends. See how he looks when you get home.
Carl

Thanks, I will check on him when I get home, hopefully he will be better. I think I will check his BG just in case, and see if anything is going on there

Hello

I am new here so can`t help you with any diabetes related issues. But I do have another older cat that has constipation issues and his first symptom of this was pooping outside of the litterbox which he had never done before. The stool would be real dark and hard and I would find some here and there. How old is you cat? My cat started having these issues a couple years ago, he now almost 14. Had to put him on Lactulose twice a day. Don`t know if that helps or not.
Oh and he sometimes will still have some left on his but and run through the house like that and I have to take baby wipes and clean his rear end off. Constipation issues will also cause a cat to vomit as well. When my cats was constipated he would vomit all over the place because he would keep right on eating but was not pooping.

He is 8 years old, when i got home that night he was fine, didn't throw up, and acted normal. Now tonight my DH says he has been throwing up again. I am pretty sure the other night when he did it I had fed him Friskies Beef and Salmon in Sauce, and I know that is what I gave him tonight. So I am not going to feed that anymore, I usually dont feed that kind, but when I ran in Walmart the other night for cat food, they didnt have a great selection. and now DH is mad because he has had to clean it up b/c I am always at work! :-x
