Questions For Everyone Who Has Been Following Rumpelteazer's BG's AND Anyone Else That Would Like To Chime In:::::

Today (4-1-13) will be RumpelT's 5th day on 0.75 units ProZinc. As far as I can tell by her SS, she is doing okay on this dose.....BUT....I have only seen (1) BLUE test. I have been giving her 1 or 2 tsp FF as treat after tests during the day. She eats 2 to 2-1/2 to 3 cans of FF after AMPS & PMPS. Not gaining or losing any weight. Still peeing a lot. Acts like she always has. Only time extremely "vocal" is when SHE WANTS TO EAT

Should I go up to 1.0 unit twice a day?
Should she eat 'more' times during the day?
Am I a tad impatient?

I am asking for advice/suggestions here because if I call my vet (who thinks I am still giving her 1.0 units), she will want me to bring her in for a 'curve'. Since I do not get paid until Friday, I do not have the $$$ to do the vet-thing this week.....might not have the $$$ for next week either :YMSIGH:  Still have to get 4 of my other kittehs to vet for their check-ups/shots. I wish I could claim them as dependents on my income tax return

I will do some checking around the forum for some info if I get a chance....but...any suggestions here would be helpful and appreciated. :-D

First off you don't need to take RumpelT in to the vet for a curve. You can simply explain that due to finances you will do the curve at home and give the results. You are doing this basically anyway. The vet needs to give a little on this. It's more than reasonable to tell them this is what has to happen. Giant waste of money to have them do it in my opinion.
Not to mention the cat will be stressed at the vet so numbers may be off.

Disclaimer: I am no dosing expert by any means. My cat was on Prozync for a year and a half before we switched insulins. BJ and Carl are way better at seeing trends and dosing than I will ever be. But that being said, I think you could go to one unit if you are around to monitor and it won't put you in a lack of sleep position. (You have to take care of you too.)

I know early on RumpelT went real low on 1 unit. This happened to us too when we first started out on Prozync. And we ended up being on a higher dose than the dose we went low on in the first place. (we went low on 3 units when we first started on insulin and Asher ended being on a higher dose than that later.) Maybe the insulin is a shock to their system at first and later they get used to it. I don't know the science behind this, but I know it happened to us and we needed to raise. Just don't be scared by 1 unit for that reason.

I'd go for it when you can monitor.

I'm with Donna. Just tell the vet you are doing curves at home, which are more accurate because of vet stress and because it's what you can afford. And yes, it looks like one unit would be a good next step - as long as you can monitor the first cycle with that dose. You got a blue recently but she still has room to drop.

It is strange that some cats do seem to be sensitive right at first and throw low numbers on low doses, but it certainly happens.
