That's a decent number Misty. What are you thinking to shoot?

confused_cat confused_cat confused_cat

Maybe stick with a .25 ? I keep looking at her SS to try and make some sense of it....find a pattern.....but cannot come to any pattern/dose conclusions. She was 293 @ 10:55PM last night before I left for work.

Yes food should raise the number. But I always base my dose decision on the number before you feed, so the 199. Then take into consideration how much they are eating. Appetite good or bad right now, etc.

4 days ago you got a 192 for amps then waited to shoot. She went up into the 400s and then you shot. But again, that number was a food spike.

You could wait a little then retest to make sure she is rising, then shoot? And I would say def no more than .25.

What do you think?

Appetite GOOD.....NomNomNomNomNom

I will wait until 9:55AM and test her again before I shoot.

If she is rising, the 0.25 will help those calories be used ie match the incoming calories to the insulin.
I think 0.25 would be safe; you have had a cushion of 100 points or more with recent shots of 0.25.

She's eating well - I think you can shoot!

As an infobit - when vets have a diabetic fast before a dental, they sometimes have you give a half dose of insulin that morning.

I would definitely shoot now Misty. Eating well and zooming up.

Shot .25 u

Now I have 3 'barf-issues' (not from RumpelT) + bowl of dry cat food (some will only eat dry) dumped all over dining room floor to clean up + litter box duty. I love coming home to my "day-care center for two-year olds" ... as I call it. :YMSIGH:

Have to give them their flea treatments today. I use Advantage II ... that be okay for RumpelT ???

Maybe I will get my breakfast around Noon !!!

Yes, I know there is always some surprise with the kitties. We had poop on the bedroom carpet the other night and my guys have never gone outside of their box before. Dunno who did it, and what caused it. No symptoms afterwards from anyone. They keep you runnin' that's for sure.

Sorry, just saw your flea treatment Q. I have no idea since I have never used those products. My cats have never gone outside so I figure I can avoid one more chemical.

If no one here knows, I'd post on the Health Board here and it will get more eyes.

I receive "gifts" almost every day. ;-)

My kittehs do not go outside either. But.. I am the one that brings fleas in on my jeans from walking through yards during work. Did I ever tell ya....I hate my job??? I bet everyone is wondering what the heck my job is. Open for guesses from anyone who wants to try.

Security?

The advantage should be fine. I'm not aware of any problems related to flea meds and diabetics. Bob was on advantage when he was getting shots. He and Mullet are on Revolution currently. There's a great med called Capstar that kills adult fleas within minutes that you could ask the vet about.

Nope.

I have used Capstar a few times when fleas were real bad, as a 'starter' before topical flea applications It is AWESOME. Don't ya just love the reactions from the "tickle effect"???? ohmygod_smile You should see 7 of them all doing silly stuff. F U N N Y !!!!!

That is a really nice +4 on this small of a dose. This is what a "curve" is supposed to look like!

Hi Misty - looking good... anxious to see your +6.

I only have 2 furry kids that go outside, plus 2 dogs, but I treat everyone. One flea and it's a NIGHTMARE!!! I look at flea treatment as an insuance policy!

I typically use Revolution, as we often have ear mites, which it ALSO treats. For the in/out-siders, they get a full treatment, as do the dogs. Other kitties usually get a half dose... unless fleas are REALLY bad, at which time I drop some $$$ and buy it for the whole gang! Ugh, fleas!!!

So you're outside at night, probably walking around in tall grasses. Security? Forest ranger/park ranger? Peeping tom? :o

Since I shoot at different times all the time, seems like I will never get any type of pattern for her.

I keep looking at her SS....but I can never make any sense of her highs & lows because of inconsistent shot times.

Please correct me if I am wrong on this thought:
Her SS on 3-9 + 3-10 + 3-11 showed a good pattern of ups & downs .... used 1 unit those days. Things took more consistent to me.

Sorry, my brain is foggy today...dozed off for an hour...don't feel too good now.

Because Prozinc doesn't have any carry over, you can look at what the pre-shot was, if it was a rising number, how much she has eaten, and how fast she has dropped on that rough level previously. In other words, don't get hung up on the specific time, focus on the relationship of those 4 factors.

Ex for right now, these guidelines might work (others please chime in!):

400s, rising, good appetite, its safe to shoot 0.50 units at a minimum. If home to monitor, you might go up to 0.75 units and start collecting data on that dose.

300s, rising, OK appetite, safe to shoot 0.5 units

300s, dropping, poor appetite, 0.25 units safe if you're leaving, 0.5 if you're home to monitor

200s, dropping, poor appetite, probably ought to skip for safety

200s, rising, good appetite, 0.25 units should be safe; maybe 0.5 units if home to monitor

Sorry I'm a little late here. My sugar boy decided he was gonna be 55 at +12 tonight  so I got pushed back.

I think your guidelines look great BJ. It's nice to have a reference like this to look at if you are rushed or don't have the energy to think sometimes. Keeps your head on straight :-D

Thanks...BJ....
This makes it easier to figure out what to do. Maybe I won't have to driving everyone else here crazy .... so often that is

So....if I did a test tonight @ say 7:30PM and she was rising from the +7 number (don't worry...I KNOW she will have an awesome appetite), I can shoot .25 units while she is eating (before 7:45PM) and she will be okay as I go to bed? Hmmmmm....or will her first shot (late) at 10:00AM this morning mess this "plan" up for tonight.

No carryover, remember? This morning's shot is wearing off.

0.25 should be fine

Also, if she is over 400, rising, & eating, 0.5 should be fine, too

WOW....this is starting to make sense!!! Thank You! dancing_cat

I will print-out or write your guidelines in my log book. Sure will be easier than going back and reading over posts .... especially as the days go by.
