i would give him a little bit of food and test again after that to see where hes at.
food can often trigger the pancreas to react and send out insulin to lower the BG. my cat is this way, so i like to feed her many times throughout the day to keep her values more constant. seems like the longer she goes without food, the higher it will be.
13 is still a fairly borderline number and with caninsulin being as harsh as it is, you dont want to send him into hypo

I agree with Jewel's Mom. Still close to that magic 200 threshold after about 17 hours since insulin. (Is my time right?) Your 13 multiplied by 18 = 234.
What is he eating? Can we get him switched over to all wet lo carb? If he will eat some wet lo carb, I would do that first and then take another test about 40 minutes after he eats. If he has gone down, it means his pancreas is working. (Without the pancreas helping, food usually raises bg levels.)

PS Cheryl. Take off the 911. It is not an emergency any more. You and Roy are doing beautifully!
Roy is strictly on FF now. The pate stuff. No lumps, clumps, gravy, etc. He will not go within 10 feet of the bag of dry food the Vet sold to me.
I am going to give him a bite to eat. How soon afterward should I test?

Okay I will take a reading at 3:30 and post that.
I gave him 1/3 of a can of FF and he scarfed it down like he hadn't eaten in eons.
He is now out in the garden with my housemate and my 3 other cats.
As a funny aside, the tips of my fingers are so sore from pricking myself with those lancets, trying to get them out the pen. Too funny.
(I'm really trying to see the humor in this, otherwise I'll go batty.)

I just had a very long telecon with my Vet. The questions I asked were answered by him in a well-structured informative manner. I am very, very, very pleased. We discussed the 2 units vs the 1 unit of caninsulin, what food Roy should eat, what numbers I should look out for and be happy with. As well, he told me to bring back the bag of food that Roy won't eat to get a refund.
I cannot tell you how good it felt to be armed with knowledge not only garnered from this site, but from the Canadian Vet. Assoc., the American Vet. Assoc., as well as the nice people at Cat Fancy Magazine, different cat breeders, the manufacturers of Caninsulin, the good people at Nestle/Purina, Blue Buffalo, Bayer, Mars, The CFA, and my former Vet.
The Vet and I worked out a solid plan, one that makes sense (almost exactly what you wonderful people have told me) and it will not be difficult to follow.
However, this will not preclude me from making a nuisance of myself on here.
Mostly tho, it was you people who helped the most by keeping my sanity intact and Roy alive, and for that, I thank you. I am so obliged I wish I could just HUG y'all.

Woohoo!! Glad you're feeling better about all this -- I suspect Roy will be one of the lucky ones that will only need insulin for a short time, and be controlled with food change.
