I took Fluffy to the vet to be boarded and he would not eat his Fancy Feast so they gave him Royal Canin Carlorie Control and he loved it . What do you all think about that food? Thanks

Was it canned Royal Canin? It's on the "new" food chart http://binkyspage.tripod.com/CanFoodNew.html

The Calorie Control CC-38 one has 8% carbs so not bad at all. The ingredients not great at all: Chicken meal, rice, corn gluten meal, powdered cellulose, natural flavors, chicken fat, potassium chloride, dried beet pulp, brewers dried yeast, fish oil, salt.... :-Q

The Calorie Control CC-High Fiber one has 28% carbs and Water sufficient for processing, chicken liver, pork by-products, pork hearts, rice flour, salmon, powdered cellulose, flax seed, calcium sulfate, guar gum, natural flavors, carrageenan... :-Q

The dry Calorie Control ones are 30+ carbs. Hopefully your vet didn't feed the dry.

IMO, Fancy Feast has better ingredients than Royal Canin. If Royal Canin was all your cat would eat during boarding, then it's ok really  Eating is much more important than amount of carbs, especially for a cat who maybe be stressed out in an unfamiliar place.

Hi Rose,

Welcome back. I assume you mean Royal Canin wet? Janet has the canned CC38 flavor on her chart as 8%. The CCHigh Fiber is 28%. http://binkyspage.tripod.com/CanFoodNew.html So the 8% wouldn't be bad, although it is nice to be able to throw in lower carb foods as well - in the 2 to 6% range. Maybe give him a while and then start mixing the other lower carbs in half and half?

I don't think you mean the dry - it runs from 20 to 46% carbs. :o

I don't think Janet has that one on her chart, but in general, gravy means high carbs. If you want, post the ingredients and we may be able to help more.

For example, the gravy sliced FF runs from 15 - 17% carbs. The FF without gravy is mostly under 8%.

The ingredients are in this order- water for processing, pork by products, pork liver, chicken liver, chicken, dried egg whites. strach, corn flour, rice flour, natural flavors,

crude protein 5.5%
crude fat 1.5
crude fiber 2.0
moisture 87.0

I think all the flours and starches will mean a higher carb food.

Maybe you can work him back to liking the low carb ones you were feeding before. Did you get the FortiFlora? You can put that on top of the lo carb to get him interested.

We want him to eat so high carb is better than nothing, but I would be working to get him back to the lower carb varieties. Higher carb means higher numbers and you were doing great with his numbers.

You have some picky cats! I have never heard of a cat not excited about it. Most people sprinkle a little over the food. Is there a low carb treat that Fluffy does like? You can try crumbling it up and sprinkling it over the wet food.
