Hi Everyone,
I talked with Roni this evening and she wanted me to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and to tell you that they are doing OK. They met with the insurance people at their house yesterday and almost everything will have to be replaced (electrical system; furnace; all appliances, etc. etc.) Apparently they are well covered. Roni got a lender car today. Between their own insurance (which includes flood insurance) and the National Disaster Relief Agency they will be able to rent an apartment for the 3 months or so that it will take to get their house back to working condition. They already have a contractor, and it is someone they know (Roni's cousin's father-in-law, or something like that). They were at the house with him today. Roni is thrilled that she found the ashes of both of their GA dogs, so now Copper and the dogs are safe with their beans. Brad found his father's ring and is very happy about that. They were able to rescue their paintings and some treasured knick-knacks. All in all, Roni sounded better than she has since the whole nightmare began. They plan to stay in the motel for another week or two and then plan to rent an apartment in Cedarhurst (one of the Five Towns), which is not far from Long Beach. (Cedarhurst doesn't have power back yet, either, but apparently it will soon.)
Moonie has been a real trooper. Yesterday, when they were at their house for 4 hours talking with the insurance people, Moonie spent that time in the car. Every time Roni checked on her she was fine. In the motel, she is having a good time, bouncing around on the beds. Today, when they went to the house to see the contractor, they left Moonie in the motel with a do-not-disturb sign on the door. She was fine, all snuggled up in her blanket, when they got home.
That's about all for now. Please keep those positive thoughts and prayers headed their way. With the help of LL, they will get through this!
