ROCKY BACK ON INSULIN ON 5TH DAY OF TRIAL

This morning I decided to give Rocky insulin shot as his BG went up to 7.3. I expected a higher number this morning as during the nigh he displayed his typical behaviour when his sugar is too high: woke us up meowing and hanging out in the kitchen purring and then walking around furniture in the lounge checking that there is no "cat killers" behind the sofa! So I check his BG and it was 9.7 (8.1 on human meter). Sure enough his behaviour matched readings on the meter!
This morning he is continuing with meowing, actually going crazy an upsetting his big brother Bailey.
The only thing I can do now is try a small dose and see how it's going to work for Rocky.
I hope I'm doing the right thing and I would welcome your opinions.

Hard to know what to say, Marlena...you obviously know Rocky well enough to know that the behaviour he is displaying is typical when his BG goes up, so maybe this is his way of telling you that he would like a drop of insulin please, mum?! I think most of us here would do exactly as you've done and give a small dose and then monitor closely to see what happens.
I know it's disappointing when you had hoped that he may have gone OTJ but this is the nature of FD and these little monkeys do like to keep us on our toes.
Thinking of you and hoping that this will just be a little blip.

Oh Marlena that is disappointing for you... But it doesn't mean Rocky lost the OTJ battle. It can be that he only needs it now and after this he can be without insulin. Don't let this get you down!

Tia and I are mirroring your results. She can go anywhere from 24 to 48 hours in normal numbers and then will rise into the 9's!
I guess we just keep trying.

Thank you guys, we will keep doing what we need to do.
I was very upset at night but I had a good night sleep (which helps) in the end and was very relaxed about it.
It may be many reasons so I just need to watch him.
He was terrible this morning but not first thing so he let me sleep but as soon as I got up he was meowing like crazy and continued for about on hour so I tried to play with him a little and in the end gave in and dispensed another portion of food - a very small one just to shut him up. He has been on reduced amount of food recently and exercising regime to support his good numbers and he had been so well balanced. He accepted smaller portions and did not cry for more food and he seemed to be so quiet which was going along with good BGs. I haven't seen such good behaviour in him for a long time. Hopefully it will come back.

Rosie's bg's were in the 7's and 8's during the first few weeks otj but I didn't realise they should be lower so didn't give insulin! They settled down in the end and she hasn't had insulin since 8th April. I test about once a week and she's usually around 5.

I'm sure you are on the right track and will soon be permanently otj, I hope so anyway. Good luck! Xx

Carol, many thanks.
That's amazing how Rosie went into remission.
I have noticed that pattern with many cats here but I couldn't get to the bottom of it because, from I was reading you are supposed to keep lowering the dose to the point of giving one drop of insulin. But many people, like you stopped shooting at about 8 and got lower and lower BG without insulin and the cat was declared OTJ.
On the 4th day of Rocky's trial it looked like his numbers are going to go slightly lower and I was so pleased. I don't know what happened last night. He is definitely different.
Have you noticed any symptoms similar to what I have with Rocky when Rosie's BG is higher then it should be?
But it looks to me that his pancreas is healing as he needs tiny doses and we had a few hypos on small doses so I'm positive that we will get there soon.
Best of health to you and Rosie :):cat::)

I don't know what happened last night and why Rocky is so vocal again. He behaves exactly like he did when his BG was high, meaning he can't settle down and keeps meowing even after being fed!
Tonight he is doing very well again so NO insulin.
He'd better cooperate because I have a lot of social events and goings away in my diary for next few months as I need a break from it all!
Only you, amazing caregivers and servants to your kitties would truly understand how I feel.

It looks like it or maybe he had upset stomach or got stressed about something outside as when he woke me up at night he was wet from the rain so he obviously spent sometime in the garden. God only knows what they get up to at night.
I'm still positive.

Rosie gets a bit wobbly when she goes higher, she does also howl but I thought that was to do with age? It's not usually hunger, just if somethings bothering her! She also has periods of running around the house like a kitten but that's when she is feeling good.

Thanks for your good wishes, I wish the same for you and Rocky, it sounds like he is on the right road to otj! Xx
