I haven't posted here in such a long time... it seems that once I lost my Fletcher, followed within months by Honey, Rex and Greta, that I lost much of my "heart" for acrocats and FD in general. But maybe there are some who remember my Robbie and would like to know that he is with his friends at the Bridge. For those of you who don't know us, here is Robbie's story:
Robbie was a "throwaway." His owner broke up with her boyfriend... she left him behind... boyfriend threw him (already diagnosed diabetic) out of the house.
People in the neighborhood were trying to help Robbie... food, water, etc, but no one took him in.
One day an angel found him under a bush... he was unresponsive. He took Robbie to my vet's office to have him humanely released from this world. As my vet told me, "Robbie was clinically gone... he shouldn't have been alive. But there was something about him... something that told me to just try." She did try and after having him in the hospital for almost 3 months, she called me.
I knew Robbie was coming home but we were having a time trying to think of a name for him... the day he was to come home, my beloved stepdaddy died... just hours before I was going to see him to say goodbye. So Robbie was named after one of the most amazing people I have ever been graced to be loved by: Robert Ensign Darling.
I had already had the amazing experience of Fletcher... my first FD... one of the first recognized acrocats on FDMB, so I figured Robbie would be a piece of cake to treat... ha! Robbie's doses went from no-dose, to low-dose, to high-dose, with no rhyme or reason.
He had a severe, 19 hour hypo with all the symptoms... freaking his vets and the ER staff out because no matter how much glucose they injected, his BGs just wouldn't stay up... until they suddenly did... with no rebound.
Early last fall Robbie started leaving blood drops whenever he pooped.
In October, the vet who gave him to me with happy tears in her eyes, told me with heartbroken tears that there was a significant tumor in Robbie's rectum.
Robbie came home and enjoyed as much love as we could give him.
On January 23, Robbie became unable to walk... he was in pain... So his best friend (my oldest DD) and I gave him the release he so needed and deserved...
