Hi gang ... did someone get the license plate of that tow truck that hauled all my free time away? UGH... Winters used to be my "down" time... not so much.
Anyway, didn't want to become persona non grata for never showing my face here in case I'm desperately begging for your help again one of these days (hopefully not) and also wanted to make sure everyone was OK so grabbing a few minutes on a late night at work and checking in.
Robbie is now on 4 units (down from almost 6) 2x per day. Numbers at amps are higher still (not sure what that's about) but generally in the low 300's (although yesterday it was 368 and pmps is generally between 260 and 290. I continue to just shoot 4 - when I tried going down to 3 (3.5ish first than 3) on the amps shot when I got to the true 3 he was over 400 that pmps - kind of not sure what this all means and REALLY need to find time to do a curve both am and pm - when I do I would LOVE feed back and promise to at least post if not update that ever elusive SS of ours... He's doing pretty well - has some real off days that I'm not sure have anything to do with diabetes - he seems forgetful and confused sometimes - odd- but others he's spot on. He has periods where he drinks LOTS of water and pees plate sized clumps but mostly it's high moderate water intake and pee clumpage. He's taken to finding a cat nip mouse EVERY night after dinner and having a REAL good time with it (this could explain the forgetfulness I'm thinking LOL although that started before the cat nip spree did). He also seems to have very, very minor/mild tremors every now and than - just sort of notice his shoulder area twitch for a second - DAvid swears it's in my mind... I don't know. I did mention it to the vet last time he was there and he checked him out looked at his most recent blood work and said to "watch him" and if it seemed to be consistent or more pronounced to bring him right back in but than I didn't see it for weeks so... not sure.
Happy New Year to you all and hope everyone and their fur kids are doing very very well. Thank you.

Hi Ellen,

Great to hear from you! I like the idea of a curve so you can see what is happening between the sometimes higher amps and the lower pmps. But in general, the numbers sound okay. What kind of numbers did you see at 5-6 units?

I guess one of the things you need to think about is what you want for Robbie. If he feels generally good but the numbers are higher, is that okay? Do you want to push and try for low numbers closer to regulation? Would that mean experimenting with a higher dose or another insulin?

Good to hear he has a catnip mouse every night for a nightcap!

The numbers at 5 and 5.5 units were remarkably similar - not the lower amps but other wise very much the same - I cut him back to 5 than we were running out of insulin and our Vet didn't have any back in yet so I cut back so I scaled him back down to make what we had last and noticed there was no real change in the numbers so when we got a new vial I tried scaling back to 3 and it didn't work out so I've stayed at the 4. My thought is that he's going down well below 200 during the day and over night - the couple of mid cycle checks I've done have been around the 140 mark mostly but I have really got to do the curve.
What I'd like for him? OTJ of course - but I don't see that happening, on Pro Zinc at least - I've been up as high as 6 (not good) and am now at 4 and he seems good. I think the next decision is the one that's been on my plate for months now - do we switch insulin? I'm just not sure.

thanks for the input Sue and for being there as always.

Hi Ellen, good to hear from you.

I think with Robbie being a higher dose kitty switching to one of the L's would be a good idea. It will give him a flatter curve and possibly let him stay in better numbers longer.

You'll need to check your PZI brain at the door though and completely re-learn a different insulin and trust me, that's not as easy as it sounds.

Whatever you decide to do we'll be there for you.

Thanks Rob - I checked my brain totally at the door some time this summer so that's part of the issue LOL However, I know this might need be something I take on. Well, see.
thanks for the input.

Ellen, you might send a pm to Donna and Asher (Donnahc). They were on ProZinc a long time. They changed to Lantus and he has definitely had lower numbers. She might be able to give you some guidance.

Hi Ellen & Robbie.
We have not checked in for a long time.
Glad to hear Robbie is feeling well most of the time and enjoying his catnip mouse romps.
Sounds like Robbie and Henry are doing about the same numbers wise.
We couldn't get ProZinc for a while and have been on compunded PZI, starting back on ProZinc within the week.
Changing and starting over again on an insulin that works completely different from ProZinc sounds scary for us.
Wishing Robbie good numbers!

Angela & Henry
