Rise in BG after feeding Soulistic??

I bought some Soulistic at Petco and fed some to Casanova yesterday. He absolutely loved it! Since there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer about how many carbs they contain, I'm nervous that they may raise his BG. His numbers were high yesterday but they were high the day before as well so I'm not sure if there is a correlation. It's so nice to feed him something that he really wants to eat. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Laura

I was feeding a Soulistic canned diet to my guys, but after finding out Sam was diabetic, I started trying to find out the carb content of the food. No one at Petco (Soulistic is manufactured for them) could/would help me, so I emailed and called the company. Got nowhere with either of those methods. Because of the tapioca starch in the food, I ultimately decided to stop feeding it. I took all the cans I had and returned them to Petco, letting them know their lack of helpfulness was why they were getting $40 worth of food back.

I have a variety. I did get an email from Weruva that had all of the nutritional analysis and they said all were below 3% carbs. Someone mentioned that the analysis needs to be "as fed" not just the nutritional info on the back of the can. I'm still confused :?

I picked up some today for Sadi (not diabetic) the only one I would feel comfortable giving Baby too is the Sardines & Tuna, ProPlan used to have one similar to that & it is on the charts & was low carb. I would not feel comfortable giving Baby any of the others though. Good Luck, the food looks great ;-)

You do need the "as fed" numbers. The numbers on the can label are useless. This explains why: http://binkyspage.tripod.com/foodfaq.html

Weruva claims that their foods are low carb but the experience of some FDMB members is that some of the foods do cause a spike in bg levels. Some varieties contain rice. Others contain various types of starches. The only 3 grain-free varieties are Mack and Jack (chunky fish in jelly and not good to feed every day), Paw Lickin Chicken (in a gravy that may cause some sensitive diabetics to have a spike in bgs), and Nine Liver (I think).
