I started a Gofundme page for Riley. We scheduled him for Monday Feb 15th for radioactive iodine treatment. The vet thinks this is his best option with other issues. I'm praying it will prolong his life without doing any further damage to his organs. The tx itself is 1000.00. Not including side costs. With 9 animals (rescues)this puts a hit in my pocket but he's my baby. Wish us luck feline friends!!! We love ya'all!

Hi, Dana. At the age of 14, Hannah's GA civie, Daisy, underwent raidioiodine treatment at Cornell. Following her initial diagnosis of hyperthyroid disease, she was put on a Methimazole (Tapazole) trial prior to I-131. She responded well to the M/T trial and her vet confirmed that she was indeed a good candidate for I-131. So in September of that year, she received the I-131 treatment and responded beautifully. She was at Cornell for a week, then we were able to bring her home. In her case, the treatment was like a miracle, giving her four more years of a very good and happy life. She passed away at the age of 18 from cancer, totally unrelated to her hyperthyroid disease and the I-131 treatment. So best wishes to you and Riley. Hugs!

Thank you so much for the encouragement I hope I'm doing the right thing I know it's a lot of money but we do what we have to for our animals. I feel in my heart I'm making the right decision for Riley. I'm just concerned about him being isolated I don't want him to think that I abandon him but it's for the best.

Yep, I know that feeling. But I've observed that our kitties seem to do quite well in situations like this, never giving up the thought that we will return for them. They are sometimes much better at coping than their humans. Daisy's Cornell doctor called every evening with an update, so that was a big help to me. And when we finally got to bring her home and saw her for the first time in a week, she looked and acted wonderful. I will never forget that day.

I have had two cat treated the iodine and then were fine when they came home. For the first I dropped off Monday afternoon and picked up Saturday. For the other it was a Monday drop-off but I picked up Thursday

Squeaker had I-131 six years ago. I brought him home two days later. The biggest issue was the handling requirements of his litter. I had to buy flushable litter and I also bought the disposable litter trays, disposing of them as recommended every 2 days. He did develop a bladder infection as he didn't do well away from home. But he came through it with flying colors.
