So, I was curious what Riley's PMPS would be after no shot yesterday morning. It was 319 (before food) so i gave him just under 1 unit. ( I couldn't get to Walmart to get the u100 needles) I checked at +5.5 last night and it was 117. This morning after food it was 368 so again I gave him a skinny 1 unit.

A question about feeding:

Riley meows to wake the dead at 5am for food - that is the schedule he is used to and I can't seem to change it. :? I don't trust myself w. sharp implements at that time of the day so I give him 1 can of food and go back to sleep til 7 when I get up and check his BG. He gets his shot at this time. I open his 2nd can of food just as I am leaving for work at 8am and leave that for him. When I come home from work at 6pm I check his BG and then give 1 can of food - he gets his pm shot about 7pm. He normally gets his 2nd can of food around 8pm. Does that feeding schedule sound okay?

I do the morning feeding thing, too. I get up and feed Linus usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours before shot time. I do get a BG reading at this point, and then again AMPS. A lot of times I find he has dropped a little in that time span - I like to think it's his pancreas, but it doesn't show any other signs of functioning, so who knows?

Our feeding schedule is pretty similar, early am, am with shot, first one home in the afternoon (4,5,6pm ish), pm with shot and late pm before bed (11pm +/-). Usually 1/2 of a large can each time, so about 2.5 large cans, although he doesn't usually finish every one.

I think we're ok as long as that early morning number is shootable, and the next number is the same or higher. It may cause problems down the road if we get closer to normal numbers and the first number is too low to shoot and the second is higher because then we won't be able to tell if it's food or not.
