Hello. I was here about 6 years ago. My first beloved fur baby, Prince, had diabetes and we managed it best we could until it was too much for Price (about 3 years.
I have returned, this time to read up on new foods, etc for our 13 yr old Siamese named Whitey. He has some other health issues, I will post later.
I will look thru the posts, but I am looking for symptoms when their sugar is low. I tried to pole Whitey's ear to start tracking his levels, but he got spooked and won't let me close now. He sees his vet Thursday, they were closed last week because too many of the staff had covid. Love our baby, don't want him to suffer more than he deserves. ❤❤❤❤

In addition to the information Kel gave you, it sounds like you have some concern that Whitey may be diabetic. Have you been seeing symptoms like increased thirst, increased urination, increased appetite and weight loss? Until you get more information from your vet check, if he is indeed diabetic, you may want to consider some lower carb diet options, depending on what you are currently feeding him. This information gives a lot of good detail, if you haven't come across it already: Food Chart

Depending on what you are currently feeding, any changes from a high carb to a lower carb diet can potentially influence (reduce) blood glucose levels in some cats, so something to be aware of if you are considering a diet switch.

As for your upcoming vet visit, if your vet suggests to run a fructosamine test to see what his average BG levels were over the last 2-3 weeks, I would have this done, in addition to them doing their standard blood tests and urinalysis. Sometimes kitties can be overly stressed at the vet's office, which can lead to temporary elevated blood glucose levels, so getting additional confirmation of his average BG levels previously will be a good double-check/verification of diagnosis.

I hope the vet visit goes well, and please let us know how we can help, or if you have additional questions.
