requesting some eyes on Asher’s chart

Hey kids:
Hope all is good out there in sugar kitty land.
I am back from a crazy business trip and just maxxed here, but we are having some numbers issues with Asher and I wonder if anyone has some ideas.

I have the chart updated. We were going along at 2.2 while I was away, but Tom upped him to 2.4 due to the numbers looking nasty. Now I am wondering if we went the wrong way. But then there are days like 6/5 where he went down to the 80s. I just can’t make sense of it and these 300s scare me, not to mention the 400s now. Do I have to threaten an insulin change to get these numbers back into an acceptable range?
Very tired maxxed and frustrated

Been staring at Asher's SS for about :30 now. Every time I get ready to comment with an 'observation' I see something that contradicts what I was going to write...

It looks like he did well on the 2.4 earlier, so maybe he just needs a little more time to settle back into it? I know how frustrating those pink PS's are...grrrr....but, I've about decided that it's more about how many hours I can keep Hershey out of the pink instead of just focusing on the PS #. (Hope that makes sense.) When I tried the increase to bring down the PS, all of the numbers went out of control! Hershey's nadir changes, maybe Asher's does, too? If so, could he be dropping lower and some of the pink PS's be a bounce? I don't know...just spitballin'...

Most of your mid-cycle numbers look pretty good...but, the mid-cycle numbers on 2.2 seemed to show more blue...But, I saw a string of yellow PS's not long ago on 2.4...I think I'd hold for another couple of cycles and see what he looks like.

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

Thank you Libby. So it's not just me that sees those contractions. It's what makes my hair gray!
Thanks so much for your input.

Donna,
The last time you went on a trip, his numbers went wonky for part of the time... When either you or Tom, or both of you happen to be "away", do the boys suffer from any separation anxiety?
Actually, last trip you were shooting 2.6 AM and 2.4 PM. You had that one day where he went green, and bounced, then you saw pinks for a while even though you reduced to 2.2 am and pm.

I liked his numbers better when you were shooting higher in the AM than in the PM I think.

You could try 2.2 and 2.0 maybe? It looks like he's bouncing from the green on the 5th, and today I just don't get how flat he is, but he didn't drop all that much yesterday either, even though the numbers were yellows. Flat and/or inverse lately, except for that AM cycle on the 5th (the 4th was a full moon), it looks like less juice might be better.

You know I asked Tom if Asher seems depressed when I am away and he thinks he may be more pesty for food but not really bummed or depressed I am not here.
(Asher is the momma’s boy, while Alby is Daddy’s boy)
So it could be a factor, but it’s hard to tell.

So tonight we kept dose the same, didn’t know what to do. So you are thinking a reduction again?
I guess what made us go up was the 400s. We just thought we went too low, but maybe its not the case.

God, this all makes me crazy, and when you are tired it all seems worse. Just very worried about these high numbers. Organ damage is my biggest fear overall.

I'm thinking that the 400s lately are bounces. He had two decent cycles on the 5th, but I think the PMPS was a bounce you shot into, and even though that night you didn't catch another green, he might have gone into the greens at some point, and my take is that he's still bouncing from that day?

Carl

Hi Donna -

I haven't analyzed your SS like Libby & Carl; just wanted to pop in to say hi, and hope you had a good time (despite it being work) on your trip. Was it Chicago again?

As for the higher numbers when you're away, While I was in Phoenix, Grayson's numbers were elevated too. Part of that was seeing all the petsitters (even though he's known all but Kim from frequent visits) but still gets kinda  bug-eyed when she comes  but he realized pretty quickly that when she came, he got food... so he decided she was okay! ;-)

Honestly, and this may not be the case for Asher, I think Grayson's biggest increases are when he doesn't get mid cycle food. Most people would think I'm nuts saying that, but it really seems like his highest AMPS are when I sleep through the night (yes, there's a feeder in our future!), or when I don't get home at lunchtime to check on him & feed. Although I know he typically spikes 30 points w/ a can of FF, I've tested & fed him at +9 and his numbers were lower at +12! I don't know that it's me he was missing - probably just all the food I give him!!!

I'm sure your physical presence makes a difference to him. Maybe just some TLC and some extra quality time and he'll be back to his usual numbers. Hoping so, at least!

Thanks so much everyone. After much back and forth, we reduced this morning to 2.2. Tom is not convinced Asher needs less, I have no clue, but we have to try.
I am getting very frustrated that we can’t regulate him and I am considering an insulin switch again too. We have half a bottle left, but I will have this conversation with my vet once more.

It’s just damn stressful knowing he is above the renal threshold so much. I think we are trying as hard as we can and being so careful with food. I don’t know what else to do.

Donna,

Let Tom know I'm not convinced either, but when I look at your sig and see "3.2bid", we know that wasn't working, right? It seems you see negative results when you try "up" so I think "down" is at least worth a try.
I would agree with the "above renal threshold" fear. I think the goal is to get him in the yellows and not see pinks. Even if he hangs out in the yellows all day, it's better than crossing the line of 300. At this point, I'd be thrilled to see 275s with 175s in the middle consistently, because that would at least be somewhat regulated/controlled. If you can avoid the pinks, healing can happen.

Carl

Well Carl, we are agreeing with the dose reduction for now. So far things look a little better, at least some nadirs. Can’t shed the bouncing and the 300s yet tho

Saturday he had a great +6 of 110, but then he bounced again. Today might be better (touch wood) since it looks like he leveled out a bit overnight (+5.5 pm was 158).

We are still shooting 2.2 for both shots 12 hours apart. His night numbers are good, it’s mostly the day numbers, and by that I mean preshoots, look cruddy many days.

Whole cat report is good. Does silly Asher stuff on a regular basis. :-D Small steps. Hard to be patient... :?
