(Remissioned cat)Thoughts on dry food for just the odd weekend?

freezing to death has got me thinking of spring time and what I’m going to do with my fur ball on the weekends. I’ve posted in older threads that my family has an acreage about 2 1/2 hours away that my retired father takes care of. I try and get up their and spend at least 2 weekends, especially a long weekend, per month from May-September. My father has cancer too so trying to enjoy every moment I can and also learn how to run an operate the place come the time I have to inheart the responsibility

Over the years I would leave on a Friday morning and be home on a Sunday afternoon, Monday morning at the latest. I would always just leave out a couple bowls of dry food, plenty of water, maybe turn on the radio, and my cat was fine for those 3 days I’d be gone. Since Zoe is no longer diabetic I’ve been feeding her only wet food (friskies chicken pate) and she is relatively content. She wasn’t a kibbles addict. I’ve learned plenty from this place about dry food and diabetics. I’ve been seeing lots of posts and comments of people talking about Young Again dry food being best for diabetics aside from your cat getting the runs. I’ve been very paranoid about the thought of giving my cat dry food and having her become diabetic again.

Just wondering what your guys thoughts would be if she had a dry food ( maybe like young again) for just the weekend, then when I’m back home she’s be back on wet day and night? 3 days of consistent dry food?

I’m hoping to find a friend or someone who can maybe come by a couple times a day and just continue to feed my cat wet food. I don’t know much people anymore now that most friends have moved or acquired families and are now busy. My mother offered to help but she’s getting up there, her mobility is a little rough and she’s about a half hour drive to the city. I can’t expect her to make that trip twice a day for 2 servings of half a can of food. I’ve thought about bringing Zoe up to the acreage as we have a holiday trailer we could stay in but I don’t know if this would be too stressful for her? My cat reacts to every noise my apartment makes... it doesn’t take much to freak her out. She’s relatively fearful of other people and there will be a lot of strange country noises. I don’t know if they would just be too tough on her 10yr old furrbody? Is it true a cat can becoming diabetic again from too much stress?

So that’s why I’ve been thinking of wetfood only Monday- Friday and dry food only from Friday-Sunday.

You might want to post and ask about this. There are a couple of low carb kibbles available in the US. I wouldn't feed any high carb dry because it *might* threaten your kitty's state of remission.

young again dry food without transitioning unto it may cause havoc on Zoe's digestive system! it does so for many cats even when transitioning them slowly unto it.. dr. elsey clean protein chicken 5% carb dry food causes less damage when not slowly transitioned unto it IMO, basing this on my 10 cats reaction to both foods.. Still even with dr. elsey, if your cat decides to overeat this high protein dry, you could come home to messy loose stool issues. you should consider a decent food timer thingie so Zoe doesn't eat a ton of dry in one sitting. there's one that lets you fill it up with like a lb or 2 of dry food and you can set it or open it through app at set times i do believe i saw not too long ago.

you could consider feeding ziwipeak air-dried chicken cat food in a good air-tight food timer thingie too, it is 2% carb and has a little more moisture in it than dry kibbles. It seems to fill up tux pretty well (first food really that does) even though he gets little of it portion wise for his 2 main meals. I didn't transistion tux to it really and there was no poop issues whatsoever, that may be a better choice for your Zoe to a aoid any tummy issues. if you try it and zoe won;t even try it, put a piece in mouth. tux wouldn't touch it at first, after i put a piece in his mouth, he ate the rest up and knew what it was after that day.

I would trial taking the cat with you for the weekend. Take her bedding and familiar things with you
