Remission - ate dry food by mistake

Hi all!

it has been a while. My beloved cat Lilli is in remission since approximately 2 years and never had any issues. She is on a strict wet food diet and low carb diet and does not eat dry food.

Because of my mistake, I gave her some dry treats for two days to help her teeth as she’s getting old and never chews dry food, she’s 15 years old.

Today she was drinking more than normal so I tested her glucose and it was around 200 and I panicked. She had not eaten the dry treats since 24 hours.

Please tell me that this does not jeopardize her remission and would be grateful if you could share any similar experience!

thank you so much

She should come back down in the next 24 hours if she's going to. There are no recent blood glucose tests (since 2021) though. We recommend testing at least once a month because if they are coming out of remission, the sooner you catch it, the better your chances of getting back there.

Just getting a few treats shouldn't keep her BG elevated very long, so I'd go back to testing at least twice a day until you know for sure she wasn't already coming out of remission and the treats just sent her over the edge.

Also, FYI, kibble or dry treats do nothing to help keep teeth clean.
