Relion Micro expired test strips ?

How long after the expiration date are the test strips still good for?

My strips expired December 11th.

I've used expired Confirm/Micro strips without an problem - can't tell you those will be fine, just sharin' my experience with them.

I've used test strips that were still in their foil packet for up to a year past the labeled expiration date. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the replies.

Just wanted to follow up with my findings re the "expired" test strips.

My "expired" pack was opened 7/11/14, so according to Relion I should have used them all up in 6 months (not sure if this means that after 6 months they are no longer good, this was the assumption I was going by). The expiration date on the packet says 2015-09.

I got a new pack of strips which I opened today 1/13/15. This packet has an expiration date of 2016-01.

I tested Alfred today with both strips on the same drop of blood.

"Expired" strips read 65
New strips read 61

It looks like they are basically reading the same so the, "use in 6 months", doesn't seem to mean that the strips are no longer good after being opened for 6 months.

I will continue to test using both sets of strips and if I find anything note worthy will report back.

When I first started testing, I used strips given to me by my niece who'd had a diabetic cat. I didn't know enough at first to check for an expiration date. They were literally years out of date, but worked fine. Still, if you get a weird reading, I'd retest.

If you are not sure if they are any good, try one on yourself first.
