Relion Confirm...?

I just tested Chocolate and it said 537 and I thought it seemed a little too high so I tested again right after and it was 374...wtf? That's not really ok if you ask me...that's a huge difference? Are these just crappy meters and am I better off spending a lot more on the one touch ultra strips?

The Relion Confirm is a good meter. Sometimes the drop of blood just isn't large enough, or there's too much blood, or it's a wonky strip. If you ever have two numbers that are that far apart, just do one more test. The numbers will never be exactly the same, but the third test will be closer to one or the other of the first two tests so at least you'll know which one is correct.

I really think it has something to do with certain strips. I also use that same meter and occasionally have an issue like that.....I end up doing 3 tests to see which one's right. I had 2 of them happen from the same bottle of strips so started looking at them. The cutter the mfgr was using was VERY dull and didn't cut them well - the edges were 'ruffled' and pulled away from the paper part.

Strictly my opinion.............it and $5 might buy you a cup of McD coffee....??

Remember: meters are allowed to be within 20% of the 'true' value.

At higher numbers, the + and - 20% is quite a big range
Example using your numbers
537 - 20% = 429.6
374 + 20% = 448.8

These values ranges overlap, indicating they could be measuring the same value ... which is probably between 429.6 - 448.8

I have that one also and am having problems with the lancet device is there a better device I can buy? have to press to hard on his ear. I'm new to this thanks

Thats a pretty big difference in numbers tho....very frustrating.......Bart I use the lancet that came with the one touch ultra...the Relion one is awful

You aren't likely to change what you're going to do at those high numbers. That's why the FDA allows the variance of + or - 20%

The range is much smaller at lower values.
ex
100 = from 80 to 120, a difference of only 40 points

If you double test, you narrow the range for the 'true' value, at the cost of more strips and maybe more lancets.

Thanks I think I will order a new one maybe from pet meds as walmart doesn't sell any other device.

You should be able to buy lancet pens separately from the meter; no need to buy a completely different device. Same places where you can buy meters, test strips, etc.
