Hi, I was wondering if somebody can recommend a reliable human meter for testing kitties...preferably to work with small amounts of blood from AT lancets.
Unfortunately is getting difficult to get strips for the AlphaTrack in Canada at a reasonable price since the sellers from US gradually refuse to ship their products to Canada (ridiculous and annoying, isn't it? ).
Thank you.

The Glucocard 01 is what I'm using right now, another member recommended it and sent me one. I think it's the same as the Relion brand that many people here use (Glucocard 01 is rebranded as the walmart brand Relion meter). I believe the meter is highly rated by consumer reports, if that gives you some assurance. I've been very happy with it, it's easy to use and requires a tiny bit of blood, it says the same amount of blood as AlphaTRAK, but I feel like it works with even less and I like that you don't have to use the side of the strips to sample the blood but the tip. I'm also using the lancets that came with the AlphaTRAK, but I'm buying the generic version from Walgreens. You can use any lancets or lancing device you want with any meter, as long as you get enough blood from the sample for the meter, that's all that matters.

This is odd, especially considering so many people here get insulin and things from Canada!

Thank you.
Seems like some shipping methods imposed by Amazon don't feel right for the sellers...so they better don't ship to Canada anymore.
Annoying.

I use a Bayer Contour Next meter as well, and I get my strips off of Ebay in bulk, usually for around $10-12/box. I think it requires a bit of a bigger drop of blood then the Relion (and hopefully its equivalent), but I don't have many issues now that Lou bleeds better. Hopefully you'll find a good, cost-effective, reliable meter to use. :cat:

I use Contour Next and I'm surprised at the tiny amount of blood I sometime get/use passes. If it doesn't, then the meter bings and you have 20 more seconds for a second chance at using the strip. It goes thru 4 separate 'tests' apparently with each test. My husband is a diabetic and he wants to 'steal' my meter and exchange for his! I just use Walmart brand Equate lancets $6 or so I think for 100.
Hope that helps.

I use Acu Check .... the strips are expensive but think it the most available here in montreal, I assume the same in toronto. I was thinking of trying to find the bayer one, as the price of the strips online seemed worth it, I just didn't figure out how to do it, and now that marvin is OTJ less of an issue
