Relapsed diabetic...will the numbers ever stabilize??

I've been posting in the Lantus/Lev forum for the majority of my insulin specific related questions, but I'm posting here mainly to ask if a diabetic kitty, who went into remission, then went out of remission, will ever be regulated again??

I understand a second remission is difficult to achieve, and I've accepted my sweet little Jubalee will probably always be a diabetic, which I'm honestly okay with. But her numbers have been so unstable going on 6 months now since her relapse, I feel this sugar dance is never going to end.

Does it take a while to get a relapsed diabetic stabilized again? If so on average, how long?

I just opened up a new vile on Lantus, so I'd like to use most of it before switching to another insulin.

Jubalee hasn't lost any weight, and is basically her "normal" usual self. She is getting a blood panel done next week to see if there is anything else going on. A dental will have to be postponed until I have the funds to pay for a spendy procedure, however her breath and teeth do not look or smell terrible, and she eats and grooms herself just fine.

Thoughts?? Advice??
Anyone else going through or went through this similar situation?

Hi Kadie,
Sorry to hear Juba has come out of remission. I know how disappointing that is.
Sheba went into remission after 3 months in 2011 and stayed there for over 2 1/2 years. She got diarrhoea ( later found to be a food allergy) and then pancreatitis which tipped her back over the edge. At first I just thought it was going to be like other times when she got sick a few times and her BSL went up for about 36 hours then down to normal but it didn't this time.

I started her back on Lantus but after about 9 months changed to Levemir which I think is better. It has a later nadir and she seemed to be happier on it.
It is harder the second time around. I could not get her into reasonable numbers for ages. It wasn't until she started on metacam for chronic pain of arthritis that her numbers started to get better....I am not suggesting you start on metacam for a minute, just telling you what happened.
Pain definitely increases her BSLs . She is now on tramodol for pain.
Have you looked to see if Juba could have pain from anything? I was completely unaware Sheba had any arthritic pain until she had an X-ray.
Sheba bounces a lot and drops very fast so I have to control the drops to stop the bounces. If I can do that we can get good numbers. It is always a work in progress.
I struggled on by myself until April last year and after lurking on the forum, I finally joined and it was the best thing I did. Sheba got into much better numbers and I learnt how to feed the curve and slow the drops etc.
So if I were you I would start posting on the L andL page again and get advise as to what to do.
It looks like Juba could be doing a bit of bouncing after the lower numbers and you might need to increase the dose again soon. But join the L and L group and get the experienced ones to assess and advise you.
You might also think about changing over to levemir if Juba doesn't settle on the Lantus.

Good luck
Bron
ETA I've just seen you have posted a couple of times in the Lantus forum. I will link this post to it.
