also someone says that they're not calibrated for cats so can someone give me an example like if I get a reading in my cap for 300 what does that really meanthanks for any help from you with this
 
Either of those 2 Relion meters from Wal-mart works well. It's a six of one, half a dozen of another sort of decision. Both need the same size small blood drop and the test strips are interchangeable between those 2 meters. The Micro is a bit more compact, but the carrying case is longer and thinner. Gee, I have both those meters and like them about the same.

Correct, human meters are not calibrated for cats but a meter does not need to be in order to manage the dosing of the insulin. A human meter works fine and the test strips are a fraction of the cost of the pet specific meters like the Alphatrak. I started with an Alphatrak but quickly switched over to the Relion Confirm. An Alphatrak also costs $100-200 depending on your vet markup and the test strips are $1 -2 apiece. That Confirm or Micro will run you around $16. Be sure to pick up some lancets for "alternate Site Testing" as they have a bigger pin to prick with which is helpful in the beginning when you are learning to home test.

WalMart ReliOn Confirm OR WalMart ReliOn Confirm Micro - same technology. The Micro is a bit smaller. If you have arthritis or other issues with your hands, pick what will be easiest for you to handle.

They use the same strips.

The unbranded version of these meters is available via ADW. You can find their link by clicking on the SHOP button above, then looking down the page for them. They are called the Glucocard 01 and Glucocard 01 Mini. The strips are available there, too, often with a discount when buying many at a time.

Practice on an apple and/or yourself first to get a feel for the process. It will help you be more confident when testing your cat.
 
There is no magic conversion from a human meter to a pet meter. The accuracy of both meters is only +/- 20%.
Human meters tend to read lower. Here is one set of data points

I just did two tests with my original AlphaTrak and my human Easy Gluco Plus meter. Both comparisons used same drop of blood from two different cats

Good Morning Everyone, I have used Relion Confirm also but have switched to the new Relion Prime, the strips are half the price (100 strips $20). I feel anyone testing B/G no matter what meter used is a" GOOD " thing. Just Saying
 
One of our very experienced members, Mel (MommaOfMuse) has had issues with the Prime. If you're concerned about low numbers or if following Tight Regulation, you may be better served by the Confirm models.
