? Reduced Appetite After Going OTJ?

So Jack the Cat went through the trial and is now insulin free for 2 weeks + 2 days. He would eat a 3 oz can twice daily, with some shredded turkey and 3mg Zobaline once a day. Starting two days ago, the day I stopped his testing, he is eating only half of what he did before. I've also started giving him a mid-day snack of 1/8 - 1/4 of a 3 oz can. I was expecting a bit of a reduction, but not half!

Is this a normal reaction? Should I be testing since he isn't eating as he was before?

Should I be concerned? Just seems strange to me.

Any guidance is most appreciated!

The decrease in water and food intake with our diabetics can be quite dramatic when they go OTJ. An unregulated diabetic eats a lot because they are not processing the food they need efficiently and need more to keep their body functioning. Once they are regulated, they basically go back to their normal food intake which is sometimes hard to remember. You can figure out roughly how many calories Jack needs per day by multiplying his ideal weight in lbs. X13.6 +70 and adjust that up or down depending on whether Jack is a couch potato or always on the go between naps or whether he needs to lose or gain some weight.;):)

Thank you. I feel relieved already.

Thanks for posting this question! Like @MrWorfMen's Mom said, I've already seen quite the water/food reduction in my cat as well after going OTJ! Kyo doesn't drink water from her bowl anymore when she use to drink so much! Turns out shes getting all the water she needs from her wet food + I mix in water whenever I can since she loves the "cat soup" lol. You are not alone in experiencing the shock and anxiety of what "normal" really is for your cat since we've all been told to monitor all their behaviors as a diabetic. This post relives me too, I'm always in need of reassurance :p:woot:
