Hi everyone, I have an appointment to bring Willow to the vet tomorrow because they won't run a U/A without seeing her, so I figure I'll get everything done while I'm there to set my mind at ease, and so she doesn't have to make a second trip. She gets *very, very* stressed.
She was diagnosed in November 2018, pretty tightly regulated on Lantus. I had full bloodwork and u/a done at the time including T4 and everything was normal, but she's not 100% and still a bit more PUPD than I'd expect with her glucose levels, so I want to check kidneys and T4 especially. Also had been treated for a pancreatic flare (symptomatic, not diagnosed) in November.
Also has had a history of IBD (no episodes in years, thankfully)
I'm a retired vet tech but a lot has changed in 20 years! So I'd like some advice on tests I should request, please.
So, I want full chemistry profile including Phos (wasn't done before). I don't need Glucose or fructosamine.
I think I've read that the SDMA test may not be as effective in diabetic cats? In any case, how essential is an early detection in a cat that is 17.5 years old? Is it recommended?
Electrolytes potassium and sodium (these were not part of the November bloodwork). Also magnesium (not done before) and Calcium
Are cholesterol and amylase really of any use, or are they just "routine"?
T4, and I'll ask them to hold some blood in case it's normal and she doesn't have CRF, so they can run a free T4 just to totally rule that out.
Also getting her blood pressure checked (first thing I want done).
I'd love to hear any thoughts/opinions on what I should get done and that which is "pushed" but not really necessary (sad but true). Anything I missed, etc.
Lastly, any thoughts on gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy? I've read it's great for neuropathic pain, and she's on zobaline but her legs still seem to bother her when resting.
