Reasons behind abnormal numbers

So I've been giving Sam a fat 1u for the past week. On April 2nd I got a "hi" msg from my meter saying the numbers were higher than usual. I don't know why this happened because I gave his fat 1u exactly 12 hrs later, tested him +9 and he was 239, 3 hrs later I got the "hi" message thing.(Now that I look back at his SS I gave his shot at 10am instead of 9am so I was 1 hr late).
This morning I got the same darn message, except that yesterday after +6 he had normal numbers, he was too low to shoot at pmps but I had to leave for a couple of hrs. When I came back he was 465 and I gave him his fat 1 u 2 hrs later. This morning his numbers were too high to test also.
I didn't think being late 1 hr (like it happened on April 2nd) would cause him to go extremely high.
I was thinking about increasing his dose tomorrow but I think I will stick with the fat 1u for a little longer.

Any thoughts?

Those HI readings are bounces, and that 466 last night was a big ol bounce from that 99. What is he eating, and has that changed at any point since you started the ss? Can you get some +6 tests in on that pm cycle? It's hard to read what's going on without some data for the evenings. I also think you should try reducing to 0.75u, a F1u is clearly too much insulin, he's all over the place and you got some long blue surfs previously on the 0.75. Reduce the dose, hold it for at least 6 cycles, and get at least a +6 in the pm.

Cathy

Thank you Cathy.
He is eating Nature's variety rabbit and duck, occasionally he eats Merrick's Cowboy Cookout.
I can try getting a +6 for the pm cycle/
I get very confused with dosage. Looking back at the most recent time I gave him 0.75u on 16march through 19th he only got pinks and a couple yellows. I tried 0.75u for 4 days in a row (maybe 4 days weren't enough?), and tried 0.9u for 7 days in a row.
When I increased the dose he started seeing more normal numbers more often.
So if I got this right you are saying that the fact that he got normal numbers and than these crazy high numbers this means the dose is too high? I get confused because with less insulin he gets stuck on pinks and reds, doesn't it mean the dose isn't enough?
Should I gradually lower the dose from a fat1 u to 0.9u? or should I go back straight to 0.75u?
It's just hard! When I see him on pinks and reds in my mind this means the dose isn't enough but I guess I'm wrong..? :-|

Alright, PC crashed so forgive typing. yes, drop to.75 now.the reason is, and speaking from memory cause I can't open ss, is 3/7ish pm you gave that dose and got 150ish overnight and low blue amps. If that was happening the next time you tried that dose it would explain the red amps each morning, they were bounces. The last day of that trial on .75 you got a mid yellow amps, that tells me something happened overnight and she went low and stayed down this time. This may be because you had held that dose long enough that she stopped bouncing. I think you are now seeig big overswings because the dose is too high, if you drop back to .75 it may take 5 days for sam to setle down and stop bouncing from his current dose. On my cell so sorry for vag..ueness and grammer

no worries thank you so much for taking time to reply to me.
I had asked in previous threads how long I should wait before I change doses and I haven't received an answer for it until now, so I will be more patient and wait about 1 week to see what happens.
I will give him 0.75u tonight.
Should I get a +6 in the middle of the night in about 5 days? because it will take at least that for his body to get used to the new dose.
Thank you!

Well, you don't really need a test tonight, your right. Right now just your PS to look more normal. But st the same time, more data is better.you can wait a cycle or two for test.

Hi Cathy a little update for you.
I decided to keep Sam on 1u for the next couple of days to see if he clears from his bounce since I was 3 hrs late for his shot that one day.
He tested 143 for his +6 today but went back to red for his pmps. I think I will give him 1 more day and then change dose on Saturday since I will be home for the most part of the day.
I have changed his dose so many times in a short period of time that I think it would be better to wait for his body to recover (or not) from that late shot.
What do you think?

Think that's smart, maybe reducing wouldn't work and waiting for this dose to settle will. Think you're right.

It's hard to see what is right sometimes :-| I hope I can tell when he clears from his bounce so I can see what I do from there. I know I haven't tried 0.75u long enough, just for 4 days so it's still a possibility!

Sam tested 505 for his AMPS. I don't get ittttttttttt :-| so frustrating. he had a nice number yesterday for his +6. 143 :-|
