Really think the ReliOn Pen doesn't work!

I just bought the Walmart ReliOn monitor, which works just great for us. But I swear, I think the pen that comes with it doesn't work with the lancets! I tried it on my own finger at the deepest setting and it never even touched my skin (though you can def. hear the lancet fire). I can't say 100% that the lancet pen it came with is this one, but it looks exactly the same: http://www.amazon.com/One-Touch-Delica- ... Does anyone have this actual combination and can get it to work? Do I have to push the pen super hard against the skin, so that your finger/ cat's ear gets pushed up into the opening? Am I crazy?
 
You can't use the Delica lancets with anything but a Delica device which retails for about $20. I love the One Touch Delica and would recommend that one over any other lancet device, it is so smooth and easy on the ear. I do have the Relion lancet and but was never happy with it.
 
Try using the lancet freehand. I never use the lancet pen on my cats, I think that I have better control with getting blood freehand.
 
I don't know that particular combination, but 1) I know the ReliOn lancet device and lancets that I got (maybe 1 1/2 years ago?) do work, and 2) I've had the same experience as you with the lancet device that came with the Bayer Contour - could hear it fire, but the end of the lancet never got far enough to touch my finger, even if I pressed hard against the device. I ended up using the device without any cap at all for a while, freehanded some, and eventually got a totally different device (several different ones, in fact).
 
The only way I can get mine to work is by taking the cap off and using it as a spring loaded handle. I put it on the 1 setting, cap off, then aim free-hand, once it is where I want it, then trigger it to do the poke. I had another one but for the life of me I can't remember the name, that I loved until one of my other cats ate it.

I bought the relion confirm meter and the relion lancets.
It worked fine, but I like doing it freehand on the cats better.
 
Just got back from CVS. The pharmacist says other people have come in complaining about it. They had what looked like my pen there and it's lancets, and she said normal lancets most definitely wouldn't work on that pen. Now it's just a matter if I really have that pen or not. She suggested bringing it in. Will send an update later :)
 
If you bought the Relion meter and pen and walmart, you need the Relion lancets to know if it works or not.
Some should have come with the meter. If those dont work with the pen, try to return it to walmart.
Or call Relion for a replacement.
 
I'm sure they showed you at CVS how to twist the top of the pen to change the depth settings. I've had my pen a long time (reLion) but it takes all lancets. I tried the freehand thing and never could master it and after I poked thru to the other side, I put the little cap back on and never tried again.
 
The Relion pen has been really hit and miss for me, sometimes it would work beautifully, and sometimes it wouldn't seem to work at all (one night I fired it 13 times and still didn't get one speck of blood!). I just use a lancet freehand now, I like it because you can see EXACTLY where you're poking. I was a little nervous the first couple times (I hate needles, and the thought of manually poking a needle into my kittys ear gave me the heebeegeebees) but now it's a breeze and I have no trouble getting blood at every test.
 
I freehand - I can see where I am aiming much more precisely than trying to guesstimate the center under the cap.
