Mini me has been getting almost every test way over 400, one over 500. I just started testing him so it may just be me but the always high results worry me. and I'm not sure how to adjust his insulin dose. His last test was 277 which I did in the midle of the day since his morning was over 500 and I gave him another unit. Can someone help me figure out how to adjust properly?

What insulin are you using? I know you were talking about Novolin, then you said you were switching to Lantus. Have you switched yet?

If you are using Lantus, they have a dosing protocol over in the Tight Regulation forum. I'd only suggest that if you're doing all the testing they suggest. Basically, each dose is held steady for 3-5 days, then adjusted based on the nadir (lowest) number in the testing cycle, then held for 3-5 days again, repeat as needed until therapeutic dose is achieved.

If you're using something else, there may be more information on those insulin support forums. Just not something I'm familiar with.

I don't think doses are ever adjusted based on any single reading, but I could be very wrong.

I'm still in the process of finding the dose for my Chester. Sometimes it just takes a while to work out what's going to be best. It's a process.

If you are still using N that is part of the problem...it only lasts in their system about 4-6 hours...Drops them fast and then wears off quickly so they are on a roller coaster ride.

Don't go with a vial; if something happens to the vial, you are out alot of money and insulin.
Why take a chance of breaking a 10ml bottle? Instead, get the pens or cartridges with each one holding 3ml and they will last you for months and months and months.

By using N, you will not get much in the way of good numbers; N just doesn't last long enough and it's very harsh on the cat.

If I can get a pen, vial or anything of Lantus I will. I just can't afford it right now. N is what his old owner got cause it was cheap so its what I have for now

so ask again. the reply may have gotten lost or something. there's a post so reply on that post.

Until then, is there any way you can shoot every 8 hours?
That'll keep it from skyrocketing when the Novolin wears off 6-8 hours after the shot.

For example, 7 am, 3 pm , and 11 pm?
