Hi all,

I could use some advice. We were starting to see some blues and even some greens, but the last couple of weeks a blue number seems to be rare. At first I was concerned that it was bouncing, so decided to reduce the insulin back slightly, but now he is going higher than I've ever seen before. The last two cycles I increased .25 units but it doesnt seem to have an affect. The strange part is, he does not have an increased appetite or increased water intake/urine output like he typically does when he has these high numbers. If anything, he seems great. Has energy, in good spirits, normal appetite....

One thing I am concerned about is I am on the same vile of insulin that I originally started him with in January. Perhaps it is no longer effective? I have ordered another vile in from the vet which will arrive in a couple of days.

Should I drastically increase his dosage at this point?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Those red and black pre-shot numbers are from Oliver bouncing. If there is some way to "feed the curve" a bit and stop the rapid slides down to the blue ranges, it could help to even out the BG levels a bit.

Do you have a timed feeder?
Are you home to feed him in the middle of the day? That could help.

No I would not do that. Why you ask.

Because I do think he is bouncing. And I think he is dropping lower at night.

Is it possible for you to get a regular test at night, before you head off to sleep?

I work 3 days a week, so on the days I work he only gets two meals per day, but I find it's rare he would finish a meal of that size so typically goes back and has more throughout the day. On the days I am home I split those feedings into three, sometimes four feedings in the day. I most likely can get someone to come feed him during the day for consistency or get a timed feeder.

Okay, I am glad to hear you also think he is bouncing because that was my first instinct over the past couple of weeks but then yesterday started questioning myself.

I often go to sleep around +2 sometimes +3 from his pm shot. Will that give me a good enough idea of what the night will be like? Or should I be setting alarms each night to get a mid cycle test in?

Do you think I should lower the insulin dose to ride out these bounces or where should I go from here?

A +2 or a +3 in the PMPS cycle would be helpful. There may be an occasional need to set an alarm at night to get a test more around the +5 +6 +7 time frame. NOT every night, but occasionally.

For now, I think the dose should stay right where it is now. We'll see if some food at particular times would help to even things out.
