Kirby was diagnosed 9 days ago and he seems to be doing well. I've been in a constant fight with my parents because he is their cat but I refuse to return him because I don't trust that they will take care of him (especially since he was skin and bones when I brought him to the vet because they wouldn't bring him).
Kirby weighed 9.5 pounds at the vet, was very dehydrated, and you could see his spine and his ribs very easily. I had trouble petting him because it both grossed me out and made me very upset. I would pet him anyway because he loves attention. He seems to be gaining weight though which I am very happy about and his skin bounces back so he doesn't seem to be as dehydrated.
The only problem is that he has really bad diarrhea. It's worse too because he is notorious for not burying his business. I've been cleaning the litter boxes sometimes twice a day just keep the smell away. My parents were feeding him 9 Lives wet food, but I've been feeding him the Royal Canin Glycobalance from the vet and either Fancy Feast or Friskies wet food because that is what I give two of my cats.
At what point should I start worrying that this isn't from a diet change? I have a vet appointment for him next week to see how he is doing, so I'll definitely bring it up then, but should I be doing something different?
On a side note, it's kind of hilarious how huge Kirby is compared to my 3 cats. Remy is 3 years old and only weighs about 8 pounds but he's definitely not underweight and Kirby looks like a giant next to him. Another good thing too is that Kirby has been very interested in playing with my kitten, Flora. My parents have another cat who is 17 and really just sleeps all day and their jerk of a dog eats any cat toys I bring over, so I feel like it's one of the first times Kirby has been able to have fun.
