It looks like Racci's finally over her bounce with a nice amps of 169. She's been very hungry and eating, except for this last meal where she acted hungry but when I gave it to her she acted fussy like something was wrong with the mixture. I mixed & warmed some more & she ate it but didn't finish it and then went in for a catnap. Well she just started yelling in her sleep again like someone was killing her. I ran in from the bathroom and again she was just lying there on her mat half asleep. When I examine her I can't find anything sore except her back legs and she won't let me touch them but their are mats there since she won't let me near them. Could just mats hurt that much? I wonder if it's her stomach? I'm getting really nervous. She seems fine when she's awake.

I'm thinking of canceling my appt for tomorrow so I can take her in if there's one available for her. I'd have to wait weeks to get mine rescheduled though. I was going to make hers for Tuesday but now I don't know.

Re: 4/2-9/12-Racci AMPS-169

Melanie I would surely take her tomorrow to vet just to be checked! Mats take the skin underneath them & twist it as they get bigger..They can be hurtful--I was a dog groomer long ago twice in my life--But try feeding her
some boiled chicken, or something that she really likes, just to be sure she's just not eating cat foods..
Hope that she is OK...It would scare me if Moonie cried out at night, but she is pretty quiet even when she hurts...But I have seen her dream & move her feet...Hope it is a simple solution & Racci is back feeling well again--Healing Vines to our dear Racci...Hugs & Lubs from us!!
please post when you get back from vet--Ok?

I'm with Roni...I'd try to get her in as soon as possible.

Sending healing vines to sweet Racci !!

Hi Roni & Celi,

Well, she is eating. She ate her cat food at +3 and in fact tried something new, her Merrick BG without so much water or mixed with anything, just warmed and a little water. So it's not that and she ate a lot of home made corned beef again for her treats. She's often fussy with her food and makes me do something to it before she'll eat it. It's either not thick enough or too thick or not warm enough, etc. You have to be a mind reader with her eating habits so that didn't worry me that much but I am concerned with her bowels.

She has to take 1/4 tsp bid every day and goes 2x a day for the past few months or she gets blocked. Sometimes she was getting these huge twisted movements when we first started. Now that it calmed down and got regular I wanted to try to lessen how much she took because it didn't look right being so big twice a day. I only did it one day and she started getting constipated so put her back on the regular dose. Yesterday she was still hard with little ones but went 3x. Now today its been softer, still small and she didn't go until after 6pm. She always seems to have a teeny bit left too, like her bowels aren't emptying or something. I'm thinking she may need more fiber or something. I'm hoping at least. I'm hoping it's nothing bad. I need to go research. Do either of you know anything about this?

I cleaned all the catnip out of her mat in the living room since that's the only bed she's done the yelling in & searched for anything that could hurt her there. I thought of maybe a spider, but there's no web there or spiders I can see. Another thing I thought of is her claws are long and need a cutting but it's very hard for me to do and she has 6 toes, one of them up pretty far on her arm. Maybe that's catching on the mat? I'll have to call the vet and see if she can do it tomorrow in the morning and cancel my appt if she can. She's napping now so I'm going to go try and cut that out while she's half asleep. Wish me luck.

Re: 4/2-9/12-Racci AMPS-169,+6-162

Best of luck tomorrow!

Binks gets Miralax twice daily...but has never had bowel problems.

My polydactyl Adopto-Tortie girl is a 6-6-5-5...with extra toes on each foot.
She really has arthritis pain issues in her back legs-
and is about 14-15 yrs old...
I wonder if the poly condition contributes to that?

She whimpers in her sleep if she gets shifted into an uncomfortable position.

Wishing Racci all the best at the vetty tomorrow!

That's the other thought I had, Celi, that it could be arthritis hurting her. It seems funny that that's the only one of her beds I've heard her crying in and it's also the only one she sleeps in that's on a wood floor rather than a carpet or the furniture. She has 2 other mats that are on carpets and she sleeps on the chair a lot too and she never cries out there or even when she sleeps on her turbo scratcher in a weird position that she seems to find comfortable, (but it's also on carpet). It's a good possibility that it's her arthritis hurting her from the cold floor even though that mat is supposed to be warm because it's 3 layers with thermal padding in the middle of two layers of fake fur. It's probably drafty there. I put a big Flannel Pillowcase on it & a flannel blanket to stick under it for her. I don't know how much that will help though if there's a draft there.

I'm thinking instead of risking anesthesia, maybe I'll just have her matts & butt shaved, hair & nails trimmed and get a script for Adequan for arthritis and if those things don't help her, than bring her back for all the xrays and sonogram. I'm deathly afraid of anesthesia for her with her asthma & being overweight & age. It really scares me. Unless of course, she sees something to investigate. I hope the vet's in and not booked up tomorrow.

Both Racci and her mom, Calli have 6 toes on all 4 feet. Racci's front ones are higher than they should be though & catch things sometimes.

Thanks Celi. I'm glad you reminded me of that. I just put the Adequan & nail clipping on my list.

Good luck woth the vet tomorrow - Vyktor was like a new cat after his hip matts got shaved, no medication required. Odd if Racci is only uncomfortable on one bed though, even odder that she would go back to that bed if it make her hurt though :?

Hi Serynne,

I couldn't get into the vet until tomorrow afternoon but after I put the mat in a flannel pillowcase on a flannel coverlet, she hasn't screamed out yet today. I'm thinking now that it's arthritis and maybe touching the cold floor, the positions she gets in there, plus the draft from the doors and windows could be whats doing it. I'll still have those matts and claws done and a trim so her stomach hair isn't so long she's dragging it too. And ask for ascript in case sheneeds it. I also want her to check her infection site.

I was able to improve one of the hips but not the other. I hope Racci has the same results Vyktor did.
