WCR well we did not sleep with me again for second night in a row and at first this morning he acted like he was just not feeling good but now he is feeling much better and is even playing with me a bit with his tape measure it still seems to me like he is urinating way too much wish that would improve he is purring and I think we are going to have a decent day have to wait and see

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

I like what I am seeing. Have to see what numbers come in today but we might want to go to 5.5u and shoot a lil' early tonight.
The mission is to stay ahead of those almighty get stuck type numbers. IMO it is very important to keep pounding away. Will make for a tired bean but the end result should be worth it.

Pretty soon you won't know whether to write AM or PM -- with early hooting AM turns into PM, used to make my head hurt.

Yes LOL I agree when doing early then later trying to make sure I am writing down the hours correctly

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

D do you think he would benefit from a feeding schedule since he eats dry I just leave it out all the time??

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Hi, Lisa & Do Lou.. how are you? Droppin thru to check on you two & wishing you a Terrific Thursday!!! Gooooooo Do Lou!!

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Hang in there, things are getting better. I know about the am/pm confusion too, I finally gave up and switched, but got a little scolded for it. I thought my sanity was worth it though. ;-)

Well I am so stressed out/exhausted now that I may lose what little sanity I have left soon I worry 24/7 about this cat

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Can you sneak in some naps? Being exhausted isn't going to help. Sucks, sorry. :YMHUG: These babies do like to keep us on our toes and keep us focused on them!

Don't know what to say about the feeding schedule, Tugger has always been a grazer and that didn't change when I finally got him switched from dry to canned. I just pretty much free feed except for the 2 hours pre-shot that I pick it up. I know dry takes a bit longer to process through the system though so you could be seeing some numbers with food behind them and not know it.

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Does Do Lou eat dry food?
I think I'm remembering from way back that he does.
That would put a different spin on things and help explain the dose.
I'll wait to hear back about his diet.

Yes he eats dry so I just got to thinking about this today for some reason he is on RC diabetic dry 24% carbs about the only canned I can get him to eat as of yet and I have tried a lot he just hates canned he seems to like RC recovery most days some days he will not touch it and other days gobbles it up so go figure its 6% carbs.

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Good Morning LIsa. I hope you can get in a nap today. Maybe Do Lou would like to snuggle with you
It's a challenge to transition a grazer, to scheduled meals. Checkers still eats on demand, even tho it's not always out for him. He just demands it! LOL

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

I'm sorry I did not ask about that sooner or dig through SS.
Totally different deal here then. In some ways I'm relieved -- there is a clear reason his dose is high. In other ways not so relieved cause it makes it difficult to regulate a cat on dry food.
From when you started trying to transition, has there been any progress in getting him to eat more wet?

Yes he is better then before but still just will not eat much his problem is he will eat some canned at first like what flavor I try like it for maybe 1-2 days and then will never eat it again when he was first dx I kept pushing FF on him and now he will not touch any flavors of it I have thrown away a lot of food with him

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

My cats do that sometimes -- act like they like a flavor, so of course, I go out and get more, only to find out they only liked it for a couple of days. But unlike DL I can reintroduce it a few weeks later for a brief time.
Gosh, I wish we could get him off of dry -- he would have a chance for remission.

I will keep on trying with wet D for I know how much better he would be total wet I have not tried any FF in about 3 weeks so maybe try some more of that I have printed out the J&B canned chart to take to the store the one time when I was pushing hard for him to eat canned was when he was on N and refused to eat and went down to 43 and DL at 43 acted almost like he could not move scared me to death he just laid there

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274

Maybe he would eat Raw? I gave Tess a few small chunks of raw chicken as a test when we were cooking some and she loved it. Try that, maybe you can win him over.

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275

We have gone the raw route ordered felines pride to try hated it still have one tub in freezer have no idea what to do with he does like primal chicken and salmon nuggets does anyone know if these would be good or not they have other stuff mixed in vitamins and i know some veggies cannot remember will get the link and maybe someone can tell me I may be able to get him to eat these again he used to love them. I used them on Voodoo when he was in show shape.

+6 275http://www.primalpetfoods.com/product/detail/c/7/id/10

if anyone wants to take a look at the primal and tell me if it would be OK to try again

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275

Keep me posted on how he does with transitioning -- we would make immediate adjustments if dry intake is significantly less or gone.
What time EST will his +10 be? I'd like to be around to see what the setup is for his PM shot.

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275

I am liking his numbers today
Can you just try mixing some wet with the dry?? That's how many transition their cats--Very slowly, even if he just eats a teaspoon..
Hope this may work--People are also doing well with Sophistocat foods from Pet smart--We dont have one near here...Have a good Fursday!

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275

hey lisa and do lou .. just dropping in to say hi, and that the amps number and what has been posted so far are a pretty yellow! No stinkus pinkus today! *anti-jinx* Have a great afternoon!

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275 +8 196

Come on, you cute Mr. Do, head right back to those nice yellows!

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +3.25 274 +6 275 +8 196

Nice to see that blue number today! I hope you can continue to get good numbers.

On the wet food, have you tried sprinkling some Liv a Littles chicken dust on the canned food? Whenever any of my kitties get finicky, I just crumble a little piece of chicken over the food and poof! it's gone. Blackie gets a little chunk at each test. I know you can get them at Petco, but they may be cheaper somewhere else.

Re: 4/15 Do Lou amps261 +6 275 +8 196 pmps315

Interesting thought. "guess its almost better to leave food down rather then have the food spike??"

Well I just ordered him wild side salmon freeze dried salmon puffs guessing they would be OK sure hope so he loves them all they are is freeze dried salmon

If he is grazing on dry it seems hard to imagine him wanting the canned. Raja used to graze and I fed them a split can in the AM and PM but she always let Shadow eat most of her canned. When I took up the dry food, I explained it to her of course  ....she was hungry when meal time came around since there was nothing for her to nibble on in between.
I just dumped out the dry into the garbage --cold turkey for her and it was NOT her idea. She was a carbo freak. I think she used to eat very often during the day. That was a year ago last Feb. She is doing just fine.

I did go to petsmart and buy their small cans of SophistaCat Supreme and they seem to like it. They were on FF for this whole time but seemed to be turned off by it lately. I do buy Feline Future powder and mix it with raw meat and freeze in little containers. I mix a little of the raw with the canned and they both eat it with freeze-dried chicken flakes on top.

I found a plastic container of some dry food and was throwing it out just recently....the sound it made was so familiar to her.....she came flying into the kitchen!!! I had to disappoint her...."NO more Raja" but she is so conditioned to the sound that it makes. Guess that will never go away....

Hi Lisa
Nice numbers for Do Lou today.
So wish you were able to get him onto wet food though.
Of course he has to eat and you could only do so much.
I guess I was lucky because Max went cold turkey off the dry.
I kept a littl bit in the house for one of his sisters who only weighs 7 pounds and
would feed her on the counter because Mac could not jump,
I donated the bags of dry food to a shelter and that't it.
Slowly, slowly and hopefully you will get him there.

Moonie & Copper always ate wet, but dry food was Always down for them. The minute she was dx'd I took away the dry food & they screamed, so I mixed it with the wet for a while, until there was more wet than dry--Hope you can find the right food for him!

It looks like Do Lou is getting some better numbers. I like that blue today and there is much less pink and more yellow these past few days, that's an improvement for sure. You are going nice and easy and its seems to be working.

You know your kitty the best, take your time with the food transitioning. You will get there in good time. Not every kitty can go from dry kibble to wet food cold turkey (no pun intended, hee, hee.) Slow and steady also wins lots of races. :-D

Some others that worked long and hard to transition from kibble; Roni and Moonie; Monique and Spooky, to name a couple. So remember you are not alone in this.

Do Lou sure is a cute kitty, I peeked at her pictures. :-D

It looks like Do Lou is responding nicely to this dose -- the overall level has dropped!

No worries on transitioning the food. When you're ready... Most of us have stories about our cats having been on dry and making the switch. It's easy for some; not so much for others.
