Re: 1/25 Oliver Amps 345

Good luck with the new dose. I hope it helps Oliver to come down to healthier numbers.

When you have a chance, can you fill in the missing Units columns in your spreadsheet? That would help to see the whole picture easier than having to scroll over to the Remarks section. Thanks.

Re: 1/25 Oliver Amps 345

Dyana I guess I don't understand what your asking on the SS I looked and have all the units filled in? Please explain more. Sorry.

Re: 1/25 Oliver Amps 345 +8 240 Pmps 517

Oh boy here we go again, my daughter gave the shot this evening and missed it. ANOTHER FUR SHOT!!!! I am considering shaving a small spot but wont that get sore doing it in the same area each time? Our poor cat... he can not catch a break. I was so mad, now I am sad as he was already super high #''s and now has to suffer all night. I could just bawl. I do not know of anything to do, and am positive there is not anything till the AM shot. :( Any suggestions would be great. Or just prayers for poor Ollie to use his Depot he may have to get through the night. We did go up to 2.5 U and he still remained sorta high today. But I guess it could be possible he could have bounced after AM shot ? But maybe NOT. Oh gee there is just always obstacle for him, then we make it more difficult.

Now at 600 I am feeling so bad.
Its almost a 100 % he was given a fur shot. He has not been in these #'s in a long time especially at night.
I wish i could give him another dose but I cant and I know that. I will be so sad all night waiting till next shot.
:(

Kelly --

I don't know if this will work for your schedule but one possibility is to give an early shot. If you test at +10 and Oliver's numbers are high, you could move your AMPS 2 hours early. The downside is that your shot schedule will be off. The earliest you could shoot in the PM would be 30 min. early. (You can shoot 30 min. early once a day or 15 min. early at each shot until you're at your preferred time.)

When we first started, I had my vet shave a patch on China...It makes it MUCH easier! Remember, that tiny needle only makes a very tiny hole...if you shave a patch, you can still vary where you're shooting each time.

It's well worth giving it a try Kelly!

(the only place I don't see units is from 9/25/13 to 11/18/13...but back then you were on PZI so I'm not sure it'd make a difference at this point)

Hope Oliver comes back down for you soon. We've all done furshots, and they're very frustrating, but they're just another nasty fact of life with this dance sometimes

we've all done it, kelly. i'm sorry oliver is so high tonight - it does look like it was a fur shot. it's so good to have your daughter helping, though. she'll get the hang of it. our son helped with punkin when he was here and i so appreciated having someone else to help.

i think shooting early in the morning tomorrow is a great idea if you can swing it!

i saw a suggestion to shave a spot on each side of the body the size of the face of a watch, then give shots around that "clock face" throughout the week. so give 12 on the right scruff on monday amps, 12 on the left scruff on monday pmps, 1 on the right side on Tuesday amps, 1 on the left side on tuesday pmps, etc. if you think of a clock face in the shaved area, that might help avoid shooting in the same spot.

Oliver will recover from the fur shot. hang in there! we do the best we can!

Thanks all I did not get up last night actually to get your messages. I already do a 6 AM shot Which is about as early as i am willing to get up. I would actually love a 4 AM and PM shot but that would for sure be a lot more fur shots and something to go wrong with me sleep walking through the routine. :P I already can barely see the syringe and get my eyes focused at 6.
The shaving a small spot may be the key. I do like the clock idea as well, but he is so handsome (shallow I know ) I hesitate to make him look any more shabby then he does now since diabetes. He has dandruff really bad lately, any ideas on how to help that out at all? Tuna with oil? IDK
Been brushing him and got all the mats out of his long hair. He was really looking like a homeless kitty.
Thanks for all the encouragement I needed that. He is drinking and peeing and got his Juice FOR SURE... this AM. So we are all settled in for more bad weather today here in IOWA! Need this to end very soon. UGH
Happy Sunday to all.

I see all the Units now. I guess my computer was funky yesterday.

The dandruff will go away once the BG numbers are better.

I'm glad you got all the insulin in this morning. I think the two watch sized shaved areas won't show too much, if he has long hair. It's up to you.

Good luck again, with the dosecrease.

Thanks Dyana I filled in the SS this AM for ya :P Just so you don't think you were seeing things. I was not a part of this group till later in Sept or Oct. So was only writing info down till I got the SS set up. So its not going to be exactly right but pretty close.
When I switched to Lantas I have posted accurate info.
Happy Day

Hi Kelly,
Rusty has very long hair and I give my share of fur shots, but l learned from several of the people here that if you pull up the hair on the scruff, it is easier to see skin and to get the shot in. When you pull up the hair, you get the "tent" automatically. (I didn't want to shave a patch either!)

Dont fret too much about temporary setbacks like fur shots. Take advantage of them and get some sleep and give Oliver's ears a little rest.

Ella & Rusty

Thanks all for the encouragement and wonderful advise.
Oliver will not let me touch his ears, he hates that so much. I was never able to get a BG from them.
I have tested in the paw successfully since we started this journey, he will lay in my arms like a baby and does very well that way.
It is super easy and we are on our way. :)
I will pull the hair and see what happens. Last night it must have went all the way through the skin I am thinking as daughter got a hand full of insulin. ??? IDK how but it happened. Its a great help some times when I cant be here. SO I try not to say much. LOL
I do it to so it happens.
