RC RX Dry Food

Is anyone feeding RC RX dry food fir diabetics with success? There is a nutritionist on a yahoo group that swears fancy feast is only okay for a daily treat and doesn't contain the right fiber. I'd be hesitant to switch Max as he blocked when he was about five years old. Now due to diabetes he drinks water so it might not be an issue. Then again it is not grain free and I don't know what triggers his pancreatitis other than stress and bad luck. I'm just curious about this food given that Max is having such a difficult time regulating and I want to make sure I don't miss any opportunity to help him. Thanks.
 
When a cat has renal issues, the last thing you want to feed is dry food. The cat's thirst drive doesn't prompt them to drink enough water, and weak kidneys need the water to work as well as they can.

Fancy Feast pates are somewhat higher in phosphorus, so you might want to consider Friskies Special Diet which is both low carb, and lower phosphorus.

Cats are obligate carnivores and do not have a dietary requirement for fiber. Fiber has been usedc in some foods to make the cat feel fuller, to provide bulk when constipation or diarrhea are a problem, or as a means to slow digestion and thus slow the glucose production (which may or may not work for a cat).

Max does not have renal issues at this point but I will find out if that is starting on his next vet visit. It's been 5 months since full labs so that will be within the next month. He blocked due to crystals when he was five and a vet pierced his bladder or else it happened overnight. I'm aware of Lisa Pierson's and her list. The nutritionist on this list has a different philosophy. When Max blocked he was eating mostly dry food and was switched to CD until he got pancreatitis. He ate mostly the dry CD. I tried every food I could find after that until I found one he would eat. It was the ff sliced mostly. I had to change to the classics with diabetes but it hasn't appeared to help or hurt at this point.

I believe the answer is NO. It does not work.

Mainly for the reasons the others stated. Additionally, most when they come here and learn about nutrition and dry food, if they were using it, they stop and if they were not, they don't start.
 
Thanks for answering my question. This woman touts it so much that I wanted to know if anyone here had so much success with it.
 
My Heffernan was on Royal Canin s/o for his urinary blockages (two blockages in 2 months) and he became diabetic after about 9 months of the RC. My vet advised against any of the diabetic prescription diets stating they were too high in carbs. Knock on wood, Heff has been just fine on the Fancy Feast classics mixed with Wellness pate's (chicken or turkey grain free) and occasional Young Again kibble.
