Is it okay to give my diabetic cat raw meat -- not the kind you make yourself and freeze -- I am talking about raw meat, such as steak, roast, hamburger (cow or deer), chicken, pork? How about the cooked varieties of those meats? Thanks in advance...

Yes - up to 1/6 of the diet may be supplemental plain meat, per Cat Info It should be human grade raw - no off odors, etc.

No cooked bones, though, as they can splinter and cause harm.

Yep!! Whenever I'm making a dish with meat I give the raw "scraps" (ie. fatty pieces, larger bones with meat still on them, etc.) to my cats to munch on. Their favorite is raw chicken breast... they just *know* when I am cutting it up and will sit on the floor and yell until they get some

This is great news! Gobbles is a lover of uncooked hamburger, steak (fattier the better?) and absolutely nuts for uncooked venison...in any form (though the venison is EXTREMELY lean)...wait till I tell him! I was making meatballs (cow) earlier today and the poor little guy would of loved to have some of the hamburger, but I didn't know for sure if I could give it to him...I'm sure he'd loved a meatball, but I added bread crumbs and parm cheese to them, so I'm thinking that is out of the question...thanks so much--i am thrilled for him :-D

If you are using ground meat, you want it to be done that day, maybe as you watch - there is some concern that all the exposed surface area is potential growth area for bacteria.

wow--i never thought of that...yes, it concerns me!

My understanding is that raw chicken wings are great for chewing upon and may help clean the teeth a smidge.

I wish I could get Mr Picky to eat raw. I've bought some and am trying to add small amounts to his food but he won't eat it.
Stubborn cat! I tried putting chicken broth over the foods he won't eat but that doesn't help.
