I got that "challenged" meter to work last night on a BIIIG drop (poor little guy), and it was 563 between 1 and 1.5 hours post-shot. No email from Bayer "support" - I used what they told me over the phone before we gave up on the terrible connection: touch the strip only to the blood, not to the "finger" (i.e. ear). We couldn't get a reading by doing it this morning, though, and I gave up rather than hurt him any more - and use up my last 10 strips before more arrive, because we may need them even more if we increase the dose before I have new ones.

I'm going to check for ketones - he already has "marked" fatty liver disease, found in a biopsy last fall and being treated quite successfully with Denamarin. (His liver values are just a little above normal now, and a little higher than the upper-normal reading the had come down to last December.) The last thing he needs at this point is ketones!! I do think he's using some of his sugar; he's eating much more than before, but is gaining a little weight on it, too. If he weren't able to use his sugar, he'd be losing weight, right??? (I remember that from Chiang - it didn't come up during R's first bout with diabetes.)

Thanks, thanks to Hillary and Weather Girl for getting meters into the mail - I will be checking that mailbox just about constantly!

Blessings!

The poor baby. Hope the ketone test is a non issue. Do you have your SS set up again?

Hi Shirley,

Hope you get your meters in the mail soon so things will be a little easier on you. And of course wishing Ragnor lower #'s. I'm sorry that he came out of remission but glad you are here. You are in good hands, but than you know that.

Have a good evening.

I just saw the name Ragnar, and had to look in as I'm Norwegian. What a surprise, my mother was born in Valley City!

Looks like you have meters on the way. Try the Hocks link on the top of the page if you ever get stuck again. I can order on Monday and have it by Friday and That's with the free shipping. I'm way out in CA, I think they are in Ohio, so you are a lot closer.

I hope Ragnar is back at the Falls soon, sometimes Mr. P just needs a little rest.
