Well still no internet at home, computer has been deemed a lemon and the replacement should be here in a couple of weeks. So should be back online again shortly I hope!

Autumn is doing great, she did fail her OTJ trial but is hanging in BEAUTIFUL numbers on .25u. We still get our occasional bounce but they are into the low 300s at max and she clears them normally but the next cycle or two.

Now for the random thoughts. This is for those just starting out to use Levemir here as that is what Autumn is on, although for those on Lantus you might want to try what I did as well, it should work for either insulin since they are both depot. In some ways being internet deprived has been a good thing because I don't have access to our fancy spreadsheets so I had to create my own to track Autumn's numbers. And well without the internet I got bored and started playing with different ways to look at Autumn's numbers because I kept feeling like I was missing some piece of her pattern. Like those Magic Eye pictures, you know the image is there you just can't quite see it, until you know how to look.

What I discovered with Autumn is that a 12 hour curve didn't tell me much because her true curve spanned more than 12 hours, she definitely has a curve just not based on a 12/12 pattern even though to make it work she still has to be dosed every 12 hours...Confused yet? When I get back on later in the week I will post some numbers that I have on her and the graphic it took to figure it all out. But what I did was I charted her BG readings on a continuous line graph and didn't separate the data by days, just one long string of BG readings. When I did that Autumn has a beautiful wave pattern. But because of her curve spanning more than a normal 12 hour cycle, I had to base her dose adjustments not from where she was the lowest on a typical every 2 hours over 12 hours curve but over the numbers for the number of cycles her curve spans over which in Autumn's case is about every 3 days. About every 3 days she will raise to around 240 then slowly drop into the high 40s low 50s then slowly creep back up again. If I increase the dose she bottoms out if I reduce on the high 40s she doesn't hold. But then again if I look at protocol and just stretch out the time frame for the data she would be considered at her ideal dose. I know ...clear as mud right?

Anyhow, will try to get some examples posted later this week. But basically if you are having a hard time seeing a pattern and knowing if you need to go up or down take the hours on the clock out of it and look at it in a continuous linear line of data, of course mark times, dates, shots, etc on the points but don't think in the terms of a set in stone 12 hours to a cycle. And when deciding up or down go from range the are when they are at the top of the wave, to where they are nadir of that particular wave.

Miss you all and hope to be back typing at you soon. Give all the kitties scritches from DH & I and whisker kisses from the Fur Gang

Hi Mel,

Sorry Autumn isn't OTJ yet, glad to hear you'll be coming back..... I understand what you've explained and I"m going to try that sort of spreadsheet myself because Jez is definitely not a 12 mour Lantus cat - I've noticed multiday patterns but hadn't figured out how to work with them. She's reasonably well regulated these days so I can't complain but I still have that dream of getting her diet controlled some day.

I think about you often - glad you could check in.
