Me again (sorry)

Quick question re BG results and dosage.

How will I know if I need to adjust his insulin dose based on his test results? I am home testing although I ran out of strips that came with the AT2. They have been ordered and should have been with me today.

Really trying to get to grips with this before I have to take Chester to my vet (first visit) sometime next week. Its going to be an interesting one

Please do not be sorry - you are a family now! Post any question or any concern.
There two methods for the dose adjustment that we follow:
The TR Protocol here and
The SLGL Method is here

They are different in dosing adjustment approach - see which one suits you best.

Are human meters/strips easily available in the UK? In the US I use human meter from my local pharmacy - the main advantage over the pet specific better being that I can pick it up at any time including holidays/weekends- unlike postal delivery.

I think you need to gather more test results for your SS to be able to evaluate dosage properly. There is Prozinc sub Forum where actual Prozinc users post - I think you can get more answers faster if you post over there.

Welcome and the best of luck to you and Chester!:)

Thank you :) Ill have a look at those protocols. :) I have ordered the Freestyle Lite Test strips. When I can I'll hunt around the local pharmacies to see who has them in stock for future :)

Agreed, I need more data :) Im just a little paranoid at the mo. I know I'll settle lol. My vet is going to be a bit tricky to deal with so arming myself as much as I can to convince him to "try another way". Thanks for the link to the Prozinc sub forum :) I'll toddle over there and see what I can find :bighug:

With Prozinc you would not use the TR or SLGS (as used with Lantus or Levemir) protocol. Dosing is based on the prehot number AND the nadir (lowest number) bin the cycle (time between shots). When you get your strips if you are able to get some more tests in during midcycle it will give a clearer picture of how well the dose is working.

Is there one of these fact sheets for Vetsulin adjustments?

This link has some information on Vestulin/Caninsulin ( same insulin...just a different name in different parts of the world:

If you have specific questions abou Vetsulin the best idea is to post on the Vetsulin forum. There are some very experienced users there that can help out with dosing questions.
