Today my cat hit a low again. He measured 47 on the relion unit. I gave him some treats and some sugar to bring him up. I also decided at that time to give him a bath because he had a flea problem and I was going to treat him today for it and wanted him to be clean.

I don't know if that was a bad idea or not while he may have been still low. I figured he might stress and if anything his BG would rise. Well, he peed in the tub while being stressed out and there was blood in it.

He did have a UTI not too long ago and I am wondering if it was that. Or could this be related to his diabetes? He's scheduled to see the vet in 3 hours. He shows no signs of distress at all but he has been wanting to stay in one room and semi hide out in there for the last week or so. I intentionally kept him in this room so I could monitor him without having to search the house for him and he's seemed to just want to stay there.

Any opinions?
 
When cats know they're poorly they feel very vulnerable. If he's exhibiting unusual hiding behaviour that points to something being not quite right for him. Be sure to tell the vet about the hiding.

Diabetics are more vulnerable to infections.

Good news, no blood in urine. Likely what it was, was the flea dirt which is basically just clumps of blood. When i soaked him it dissolved it rapidly and shot into the water off his back and looked like it came from urine.

Also, I don't particularly like my vet. She's not articulate, too bubbly and questioned me using a human meter like I was an imbecile while seemingly not paying attention when I would mention something.

She we will only write another prescription for Prozinc, does anything know anything about it? She wont do it without monitoring the cat there again first which I am not particularly fond of.
 
Good news about Ozzy not having a UTI. There's no need for your vet to do glucose checks and curves. Vet BG #'s generally are much higher than what you will get with home testing, especially with a stressed cat. And with a vet BG reading, your vet may prescribe too high of a dose of Prozinc.

You can do this all yourself at home. It sounds like it may be time to look for another vet. A good vet works with you, not against you. My vet supports my wishes to use a human meter and home test. In fact, he's very pleased that I am monitoring CJ closely. He has said he wished all of his clients did that.

Gave my cat .5 units tonight after 1 unit seemed too much. This was odd that 1 unit was too much but he's been needing less and less it seems. Well, .5 units tonight was too much and he hit too low! I don't know what this means, maybe my cat is no longer diabetic?!
 
His pancreas could be sputtering back to life now that he's in your care and you've been regulating him so well. What was his PMPS? How low did he go?

If you do need to put him on Prozinc, a lot of people here use it successfully. I used it for Marshmallow when she had steroid-induced diabetes. (When the steroids got out of her system, she no longer needed it.) It will give him more support than Novolin which doesn't seem to last a full 12 hours.

I just found a new vet, as my old one was not meeting my kitty's needs, and the Vet Interview Topics was an invaluable tool, definitely check it out and use it when you talk to a new vet/vets! Good luck with your kitty! :)
 
This morning I gave the cat .25 or less units and he was at 103 on the human meter. I really can't give him any less than that so tonight he doesn't get any. We'll see what happens but I don't think he needs it anymore.
 
You can actually do less than that. Push and hold the plunger in tight, insert into the inverted vial, and release the pressure on the plunger. It will give a couple of drops. I had Shiloh on .1 units for about 2 1/2 weeks before her OTJ trial. But unfortunately, without a spreadsheet of his numbers, we can't really tell what is going on.

I hope he doesn't need it anymore, but just know there are options if he does.
 
I was probably exaggerating by .25 units. I tried testing a few techniques to get less and less but I don't think I can any more. I really don't think he needs anything though. We'll see, I'll be monitoring him closely.

Did you give any Prozinc today? If so, when and how many units?

He's on Novolin N, not ProZinc. I don't know if that guide is correct. My meter read 378 20 minutes after the vets read 336.
