Questions about ProZinc, considering switching to

Hello. Sabrina is on Lantus but it's difficult for me to dose her every 12 hours due to my work schedule and life. My vet originally said that dosing within 2 hours was fine and I can usually dose within the 11-13 hour range. Occasionally a dose will be closer to +10 or +14. If that happens, I try to split the difference as much as possible with the next shot. Someone suggested considering switching to ProZinc since it's not a depot insulin and can withstand less consistent timing. Does that seem like a good option? How does the cost of ProZinc in the US compare to Lantus?

Sabrina has problems sometimes where she seems to be stumbling or falling over, especially when she's trying to get up. Tests show that her BS is not low at these times. One theory is that bouncing numbers are causing neuropathy, and for her this is how her neurpathy presents. Her issues do seem to be back leg-related, but it's hard to tell. She is not walking flat footed. Today is a bad day where my daughter is at home and reports that Sabrina has fallen over or collapsed at least 5 times today, but she recovers and gets right up after the stumble. I'm wondering if a non-depot insulin might help her regulate better, given my schedule challenges. I have her test numbers at home and will try to update her spreadsheet tonight.

You could. I used ProZinc for its flexibility. It's about $103 on chewy.com and just like lantus, is good in the fridge for 5ish months.

B12 methylcobalamin supplements are good for helping with neuropathy, along with getting the bg regulated. I liked using zobaline brand which I buy on amazon. Have you had labs done recently? I ask because other things such as low potassium can also cause stumbling like that. If you have the lab reports you can post them or add them to your lab tab on the spreadsheet.

Thanks, Janet! Her labs from June are posted. Her vet appt was cancelled becasue the vet had to quarantine. They were supposed to call back to reschedule but didn't, and Sabrina seemed to be doing OK recently so I didn't pester them. I just called them and left a message. I also just ordered Zobaline. I was going to get some or just plain Methyl B12 about a month ago, but didn't get it done and hadn't seen a bad day in a while. (Of course, I'm not home all through the day so I may just not see some bad spells.)

I only paid $47 for my Lantus pen, but the ProZinc may have more units. And of course dose amount makes a big difference.

I know the zobaline is pricy compared to other brands but I like it. One tiny tablet is 3mcg which is more than many brands, but once crushed (easily crushed with fingers) the powder is a small amount. I would mix it in my cats food and she wouldn't notice.

A lantus pen is 3 ml, a ProZinc vial is 10 ml. If course there are 100 u per ml vrs 40 u per ml because the concentration is different... so a lantus pen has 300 u, and a ProZinc vial has 400.... So it's not a lot more when you look at it that way.
