Hi Everyone,
I’m reaching out about my Louf. He gets his blood sugar tested once a month still to ensure he is maintaining levels. He has been doing well. He eats Weruva three times a day (big can in the morning and at night and a small can for lunch. He has been doing well since on this food.

He gets picky though. I am particular with the cans I give him and I try to switch up flavors and types. He is very stubborn and at times would rather not eat at all if he doesn’t feel like the kind I give him. I have gotten the Forti Flora and use that to entice him sometimes but don’t want to rely on that.

He has lost some weight and I monitor this closely. He’s at 9.2 right now and he is a big and long cat so I really would like him to at least be back up to 10 or 10.5. He eats dehydrated chicken snacks but that’s the only treat. I tried giving him lean meat snacks that I cook from fresh with nothing added to it he eats this sometimes (liver).

Would it be possible for me to give him a small bit of lowe carb dry food during the day as a filler or snack? He used to love his dry food so much. (However I also worry he may stop eating wet all together if he gets dry too but maybe not if it’s a small bit twice a day like a treat). I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize his remission but I want him at a healthy weight too. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions anyone can provide. Thank you

I’m not sure I would introduce dry food again.
What about some cooked chicken meat? Even chicken or beef mince cooked?
Or a cooked egg. My cat loves cooked egg. You could scramble or make an omelette.
Don’t feed too much liver. Cats love it but too much is toxic. I would not feed more than a piece the size of the top joint of your little finger a day.

Thank you so much for your response. I’m honestly open to anything, so I appreciate all the feedback. This was the first time we tried liver he did eat a little but I did read about limiting due to the toxicity so that made me nervous to try it again as well. I worry that if I introduce the dry food he’ll give up completely on the wet food again because he has always preferred it. I can definitely try the other options too. Is it okay for him to have chicken or egg, things like that, daily with his wet food. I’m considering trying a different brand to supplement as well, maybe fancy feast or something from the list on here. He is such a picky eater.

@Bron and Sheba (GA) sorry to be a bug, and not sure if you know for sure. I picked up some fancy feast cans as per the list and he has been eating some of those, so I'm thinking he is being stubborn and sick of the Weruva which is okay as long as I can find him similar options that are okay for him. My question is I am looking at the numbers for the friskies pate and it is on the lower end for carbs like the Weruva. I know when we transferred him a couple years back he hated pate, but grew to like it over time. He loved Friskies before his diagnosis. Would the pate options be low carb for him? I know previously I was told a lot of the friskies were moderate or mid carb but I think that was for shreds and gravies.
