Do you guys have arthritic kitties as well?

I have been working to control jacks blood sugar..but I noticed he has a humped back and is reluctant to move a lot. He also sleeps a lot

I blame myself for this because I was a naïve 20 year that took my vets word at the time that declawing was ok.

He looks like he has arthritis but hes fine if I get him some soft blankets for him to sleep on on my bed.

Was wondering if I should take him in before his next appointment that has been scheduled. I just don't want it to be something else like kidney disease or anything like that. Its been a while since he has had a full work up and I cant afford a full kidney panel for a couple of weeks.

He has also been scratching at one ear like crazy

2 handfuls of what dry? A handful is roughly half a cup, a common regular feeding amount, and unless it is a low carb dry, such as Young Again 9 Carb or Epigen 90, it is going to keep the numbers high.

Mine has severe arthritis.
It's usually confirmed by x-ray.

After dx, I started giving her adequan shots for the arthritis. It helps. She actually started playing a little again.
There are supplements too.....Cosequin, fish oil on food (anti-inflammatory), hyaluronic acid for joint mobility, and buprenorphine for pain.

I'm only doing the adequan shots and the buprenorphine.

I get the buprenorphine from diamondbackdrugs.com. Your vet has to call them with a prescription and then they call you for payment. They are the cheapest I've found.

Hes drinking a lot of water too..Still working on the testing..Hes a crotchy old man...Can I start doing regular syringes and try for 2.25 units instead of 3. three is too much for him but I have the pen. I don't think hes getting enough

Hes doing ok...I got no response on the 2.25 so I didn't start it yet


Hes actually acting normally except..

A couple times a week hes puking foamy stuff after he eats. After hes done...hes fine


Is this normal?

How long between meals? Some cats need to eat smaller amounts more often or they can get an acid stomach.
You might try 1/4 of a Pepcid AC 20 minutes or so before eating. (Check w/ your vet.)

Does he scarf 'n' barf? Slow him down by spreading the food thinly across a plate. Or, freeze some to be eaten as it thaws.

Could he be working on a furball? Those can block throughput, although I'd expect to see food in the vomitus, in that case.
