Good Morning Everyone,
At the moment I’m very upset and just needed to know if anyone has experienced this? We recently did a temporary move to help family and we are in an upper apartment that does not have air conditioning and gets very warm. We run fans and have this little portable air conditioner that we got yesterday, but the house has gotten up to the high 70s lately.

Anyway Fouf has been in remission for a year now. We do his levels with alpha trak 2 monthly. He is always around the 70s in numbers. I did his today, and unfortunately it is my last testing strip so I can’t even retest yet to see if it’s a fluke. His number was 138. I’m instantly sick and terrified that he may come out of remission. However I know that it may be the strip and I won’t know until I retest. Going to get a new alpha trak 3 meter asap. Waiting for it to arrive.

Has anyone seen elevated reads from heat?

Any source of stress, including new surroundings, can cause a bump in numbers. All of the new smells, new sounds, etc. may be contributing to the stress given how cats are such creatures of habit. I'd also encourage you to not get overly stressed because that will be communicated to your kitty.

Give it a couple of days. Also, the biggest factor that causes cats in remission to have high numbers is the need for dental work. If your cat's numbers don't come back down, a check up w/ the vet is a good idea to rule out any source of infection or inflammation that may be brewing.

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) thank you for your response. It has gotten so warm in here and he has been so anxious so I’m hoping it contributes to that. Not that I want him hot or stressed either. I did just go out and buy an air conditioner and he is lying here and seems much less anxious and very comfortable. My new Alphatrak should be coming in a day or two so I can retest then. I know I have to relax on my end as well like you said because he is my shadow and I’m sure he feels the tension so I’m trying to just take some deep breaths. Fingers crossed when we retest in a few days he will be back to his baseline.

I also think that it could be related to stress because all the changes and feeling warmer than he is used to more than the heat itself, we live in a City where temperatures can go higher than 70's during summer and it has not influenced Babu's numbers even though he is a himie with lots and lots of hair, actually in recent years when temperatures have been warmer than it use to be I've had to shave him and her sibling that is also a himie so that he can be a bit more confortable and still his numbers have not changed, each cat is different though so just keep an eye on him just to be sure

Thank you so much @Veronica & Babu-chiri and @Red & Rover (GA). We got an air conditioning unit for the main area yesterday and closed off the bedroom until we can get another this weekend. He was so much more himself yesterday. He was finally running around again and he ate all his meals. He was Fouf again which was so so nice to see. His new testing kit looks like it finally comes tomorrow. So once I get it I can test him again that morning or Sunday morning to see where he is at. Praying it’s back to around the 70’s again.

Just an update for everyone. Foufs new meter and strips came in and he is back in his normal range for blood sugar. He was an 83 so I think it may have either been a messed up strip or the intense heat in the new house. We since out in air conditioning and he is doing much better :)
