Question regarding feeding and feeding times… I’ve been trying to read through as many posts as I can regarding feeding but I can’t seem to find a good consensus.
Dyson is super hungry all the time, and we have been feeding him small amounts every 2-3 hours during the day, in addition to his 8am/8pm meals. All food is wet food or freeze dried chicken-only. We aren’t worried about weight gain since he had lost about ten lbs before he ended up in the ER for a DKA at the end of March.(since then there have been no ketones.)
Is this hurting our readings? The spreadsheet numbers are all over the place. Are we accidentally sabotaging his numbers? Is there a time where we should definitely not be feeding him? Or should we be feeding him when he is hungry?
Thank you to anyone who can give us any clarity on this :/

The only time it’s really recommended to withhold food is the 2 hours before shot time so you can make sure the pre-shot number isn’t influenced by food. Otherwise, feed as often as you’d like. Several small meals per day are better than one or two big ones.

Thank you….its so much information you can easily get lost in it… and I just want to make sure I do everything right and give him the best chance to feel better.

If you like you can pull up Corky's Spreadsheet and go to Remarks just forward arrow on any BG#, until you get to remarks , you can get an idea of my feeding pattern and the times and when I feed Corky, he is a big eater so I give 2 main meals on AMPS and PMPS and two in between small meals/snack, you know your baby best, and of course, following the other members posts, and situation, you can find your feeding schedule. Hope that might help you:bighug:;):cat::cat:

Feed the bulk of his food before his typical nadir hour. Feeding after nadir can shorten the duration of his insulin and cause numbers to rise prematurely. And of course withhold food for two hours before AMPS and PMPS (for now at least until you have a really good handle on hai response to carbs.)

I really don’t think you are doing anything wrong with your feeding as long as you’re feeding LC wet food. Looking at his spreadsheet, it looks like you just need to plow ahead with the increases for now — and of course keep monitoring the cycles. You are doing your very best, I can tell. I understand your frustration. Been there done that. At least you have seem a few yellows. Those are small victories. Hang in there!

Also @SpotsMom it’s not recommended to feed after nadir — except for testing treats. See my post below about that.
