question on N?

In the absence of data, 200. But then you also need to consider full or partial dose, etc. It would be nice to see a spreadsheet...

This is difficult to answer. We need more info. In general, you don't give insulin to a new diabetic if the bg is under 200. But, when the cat starts to respond, and you have data to support giving smaller doses at lower numbers, you start to "fine tune", hoping to eventually get the cat down to minute doses, and then off insulin.

Very few people here have experience with N. If I were you, I would add N dosage advice needed to your subject line, and include any data your friend has in the way of bg numbers and dosage given.

I have used N in the past.

It is a short-lasting insulin -- usually all used up in less than 10 hours in cats.

Please visit the Insulin Support Group for N / Vetsulin and read the "N Primer" for some excellent tips on using N safely.

Thanks Sue, Phoebe, and Jen.

I'll be back with more information. I did a ss for her. I have it attached to my signiture. Heps ss. I'll get the missing data and fill it in. He's down to 2U now and doing great. So great that I just wanted to give her some guide lines on when not to shoot.

Thanks again.

Yes wee need more data. The Hep's spreadsheet is very lean on data, especially for the recent past. My Twigie is on N but she seems to be very abnormal with regards to N. Tonigt I shot her with 0.5 units with a BG of 106. Based on past experience she will only drop to the 80's. She will probably be in the 90's at the AM PS where I will give her 0.3 units.

Phoebe,

She feeds dry. Of course she came home with perscription dry from the vets. She has pretty recently changed to EVO under my suggestion. I could be wrong but I think thats why his #'s took a turn for the better. I'm going to tell her again that testing ps is a must. Especially with seeing some of the low #'s hes been getting lately.

Going to go work on the ss.
