Hi, knowing that I need to start testing for Ketones, I went out and got some test strips today and hope to get a test done tonight. Here's my question, if the results show that there are ketones present, what should be done? Having ketones in the urine is from sustained high blood glucose, so with Harry's glucose still being quite high and not regulated yet, what should be done if his test comes out positive for ketones. Or does this just make it all that more urgent to get him regulated as soon as possible. Thanks!

Trace ketones and you contact the vet ASAP for advice on how to proceed (including out of hours). Anything higher than trace and you need to bring your cat to a vet immediately for emergency treatment to flush the ketones out of his system in order to prevent DKA. Here's a helpful forum sticky:

Thanks for info! I was able to get a test done and I'm very thankful it was negative. I was really nervous since Harry's numbers have been so high. Thanks again!
