I have been testing Shanti at different times of the day but not all on the same day. One day at +6 hours he was 269, the next day at +7 he was 136. Today I tested him at +11 hours and he is 133. There was a day +4 when he was 460 but I may have had a fur shot that day. These are all am. He is getting 3 units twice a day but now that his shot is only 35 minutes away I am hesitant to give him 3 when his number was 133. Last time he had a number that low at +10 I gvce him 2 units. What is your opinion?

Since you're still fairly new at this and haven't gotten much data yet on Shanti's reaction to insulin, I would definitely not give the full dose tonight. 2u sounds like a safe decrease since you've done that before and didn't have any problems. Just be sure to monitor him carefully.

It would also be helpful if you could create a spreadsheet for us to easily view the numbers you're getting and it will also give us a bigger picture of what's going on.

I forgot to mention that he hasn't had much to eat for several hours, I will feed him before he gets a shot. I have a spreadsheet but I really do not know how to post things, I will have my son show me. Thank you for the help.

This is where a spreadsheet comes in handy - let us know if your son can't help you get it set up - heres a link with a "how to" http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18207

If he is under 200 at pre shot I would skip this shot - primarily because you don't have enough data to know what he will do next. He might be fine or he might plummet. Over time though its important to learn to shoot at lower and lower numbers. The mantra is "shoot low to stay low". Thats how you get a well regulated cat or even remission. And thats why a spreadsheet is so important... as it allows you to see trends and really know from past experience whether its safe to shoot

Also its recommend you don't feed for two hours before the shot since food will artificially and temporarily cause the BG to rise and by not feeding you will see what the BG is really doing. So don't feed for two hours before shot, test then shoot and feed if he is over 200. (for now)
