What is an 'active cycle'?

I've seen it referred to a few times but I can't find any information on it.

Just curious.

Thanks for enlightenment :-D

It refers to a phenomena when using Lantus or Lev.

A flat yellow or blue cycle often precedes a breakthrough to green numbers in 12-24 hours. That breakthrough is called the "active cycle," because the bean (human) is very active monitoring and testing and feeding in an attempt to get the cat to 'surf' those green numbers for as long as possible.

Thanks for that--I was wondering.

in addition to what Blue has already mentioned...
the possibility of an active cycle is also often indicated when the +2 number is lower than the preshot number when using lantus/levemir.

ince this is the health board I wanted to explain the colors mentioned. For new folks who might not have spreadsheet experience or our new to the board in general, the colors Blue, Yellow and Green refer to the blood glucose numbers on the spreadsheets that many people keep linked to their signature lines, there is a color code system to help with intrepration.

Green blood sugar numbers are 40-99
Blue blood sugar numbers are 100-199
Yellow blood sugar numbers are 200-299
Purple blood sugar numbers are 300-399
Red blood sugar numbers are 400-499
Black blood sugar numbers over 500

Going a little further, the +2 mentioned means two (2) hours after the preshot number. Preshot number is the blood sugar reading you took when you were giving the injection, whether morning or night shot.

If I give Kiki her insulin at 8:00 AM, my +2 is 10:00 AM. Using the +numbers makes it easier on everyone to quickly see where you are in the cycle, rather than saying it's 6:00 pm and my cat is getting a low number, if we know right off the top that we're talking about 10 (+10) hours after the injection versus 2 (+2) hours after the injection we can offer advice more effectively.
