hi everyone, i have found a food that Tigger will eat, but i can't seem to find the Carb content of it anywhere. I know its not the greatest food out there but if he'll eat it then I'm ok with it! He likes Meow Mix Market selections, any of the chicken or turkey flavours. Is there any way to find out the carb count?

thanks guys,

annemarie

i don't know the numbers off hand (but i'll see if i can find them) but i can tell you i can feed them and it not effect Mousie's numbers :-) i want to say they are low enough carb but let me, or someone else, double check :-)

I believe those all contain starch and wheat gluten--those are usually indications that they will be higher in carbs than you want.

Is it the chunky texture that he seems to go for? If so, there might be some lower carb alternatives people can suggest. I remember seeing a few on a thread somewhere--let me see if I can find it.

Hi Annemarie

what I have done is there is a number on the bottom of the food (tray, or can) you can call an ask them , I have done that and asked them to send me a read out of all the food ing, and carb contents ... I just tell them I have a diabetic cat and need to know carbs and if it is grain free and no wheat gluten and so on... hope this helps cat_pet_icon

Wheat gluten is a protein and does not contribute to the carbohydrate amount.

Starch does contribute to the amount of carbs, however. I say it's a high-carb indication because wheat gluten is usually present in conjunction with a starch. And wheat gluten is highly allergenic and hooks to the intestinal lining and can cause bowel problems, so it's good to avoid regardless.

i can't seem to find any of the posts i was thinking about that talks of the carb content and/or that many people were using them without BG being effected. i know it was when those little yellow cups first hit the market. i'm thinking it might have been on the old board, which has pretty much no search function :-(
